i have a mars 2 900. I took the heat sinks and fans and used the case. Installed 4 cxb3590s 36v with ideal cob holders. hlg-185h-c1400a driver. Wired it all up and cant get any light out of the cobs. Help would be appreciated. Thought it was where i spliced into the harnes of the mars so i just put a plug on the driver still nothing. first build.

Thanks for your time

Actually i just figured it out. One of the cobs came out of the holder and wasnt making contact with the solder less pads. The mars has a bunch of drivers in it that still work but they have no markings on them 2 find out what the specs are on them. Any way 2 check. Left the 4 in that controlled the 4 fans. No room for the 185 in the case. W/ or without the other drivers in. Guess iam mount the driver on the outside. Ill try 2 get pics up later today.

Pretty sure the drivers are all 1.33amp drivers for every Mars model I read somewhere on here. You know there's a youtube video by @Growmau5 that explains this entire build.

And also, if you're not using the drivers in the case and are mounting your HLG remotely, I highly reccomend removing them from the fixture case to lessen the weight and so they're accessible if you ever decide to use them for another project in the future. You won't have to pull your light down to get them.

Well done getting into converting that Mars II 900W (ha ha) box of puss.

I'm sort of with Airwalker here on removing those drivers lot of dead weight and restriction of air flow, however with only 4 cobs on those heat sinks it'll be no problem.

Actually Mars series II lamps have 55-100v 750ma +-5% drivers.
I've pulled 8 of these apart now all have the same, I have seen some other members however with different ratings.

May I ask how you are driving the fans?

I have done the conversion like you and then stripped it all down and created Mars Bars to get a better spread...

Anyway good vibes and happy cobbing.

Thanks for all the info.i watched video by @Growmau5 that explains this entire build. His was for a 700 wasnt sure if the drivers were different or what, also didnt see the driver details in his video. I have learned alot from watching all of his videos. I left the 4 drivers in that are controling the 4 fans and removed the other 2. Can i put all the fans on 1 of the mars drivers? I ordered the cobs and hlg driver. They shipped in 4 days. The waygos i ordered says 2 more weeks so i just got started with scotch locks. Its my first dyi cob build so iam sure its not perfect but if it works its going 2 be better than the mars2. Hated the blurple light fan broke first week owning it and a few months of use it lost a string of leds.

Yes growmau5 video's have been creating plenty of new builders around the globe. Big shout out to him and all the others that contribute to the community.

Now when I first posted to your thread, I thought you might have left those drivers in to run the 12v fans and was going to suggest that this isn't the best of idea's.
The reason being that the driver is essentially running with no load (please correct me if I'm wrong more electrically educated individuals than myself) which really isn't good for them.
I'm not sure that you'll get away with all fans on the one driver as haven't pulled a driver apart to see the Amp rating of that 12v circuit. (Anyone done this?)

I also did the Mars conversion and it was my first build. You may find like myself that the spread isn't real good in those Mars casings like I did and then rip the whole thing to pieces to build Mars Bars, I actually used the drivers to run softer, and used virtually everything inside the casings.

It's been a lot of work, but also feels very rewarding knowing these lights inside out.

The 4 fans i have in there now all have there own driver that were the mars ones. 1 running each fan. The 2 that were only running leds i took out. I think the fixture will do a 3x3 good at the right distance. Not 2 sure on how far to keep the cobs away from the canopy was thinking 18-20 inch. Those bars sound like a good idea for getting more coverage. I run a 4x6. 1k hps and a rw150 pulled almost 30 zips scrog style of holy grail kush. Not all the way converted over 2 led but iam working on it.

Hi sir.
I open mine and tested myself.
Mars 2 900W 5w chips.
9 drivers inside:
Voltage max 112v.
Amperage max 0.71Amp
4 fans with labels 12V 0.3 amp, but tested and work at 0.2amp.

The drivers are 110v 0.7amp capable, so 4 12v fans (12x4=48v) is perfectly possible.

I just saw your post today,I been planing mine for a while and the Cree 3590 is probably the best option (if you find them at good price). But you should choose the 72v option, as at 0.7amp will perform much better than the 32v option

Imo 6 72v 3590 mix 3000K,3500K high cri is the way to go with those drivers.

Those ara also good configs for the 900W model:

Cree:
I know there are more cree options that I may have had a look at, but I choose the 3590.

The setup it will be 6 cree 3590cxb 3000K 80Cri 72V. at 0.7Amp

http://www.digikey.co.uk/product-se...=1&stock=1&quantity=0&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=25
And that's about 270 british pounds.(without counting the light mounting)

Bridgelux:
Indeed I will go for the vero29 if so, even knowing the next gen of it is to be released very soon.

They will be 12 pieces of mix 3000k, 3500k 2 x driver. running very soft 0.7amp (maybe a waste)

http://www.digikey.co.uk/product-detail/en/bridgelux/BXRC-30E10K0-L-23/976-1253-ND/5180225
That will be 218£ (no mountings)

Citizen:
In here I been looking for the clu046,clu048 as they just released they next gen.

The Idea it was a mix of CLU048 3000K, 3500K high cri, also 12 cobs
2 x driver (but could do 3)

http://www.digikey.co.uk/product-se...ee=0&rohs=0&quantity=&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=25
Price is 232£

As you can see, not really much price difference between!

P.D.: I am looking for a cheap vero's29, citizen clu048-1212 or (even better) Cree 3590 72v All should be 3000K 3500K and High CRI
Thanks!!

Thanks for all that info. I went ahead a got a Mean well 185-1400. I i figure the drivers from mars go out all the time. I got 4 cree cxb3590s 36v. Ill work on getting all the fans and 1 driver and will free some up. Will use the drivers for more cobs tho. The fans in my case had no markings label or anything.

On another note where can i get lens or reflectors for the cxb3590 i know they have them but id rather get them from somewhere other than alibaba. What one is better? Iam useing the ideal cob holder

I know there are prob other post on this but which is better reflector or the lens. Comparable to plant height and how high the light needs to be from the canopy.
