Maybe a bit pedantic....but do you water in the morn / evening during flowering?

Guys,

I really dont know if it makes a difference, but when is the best time of the flowering stage to water?

I usually water just before the light turns off at the end of the 12/12.

As said, i know it pedantic, but in the garden, you know for normal flowers, they say you shouldnt water when the sun is on the plants. Does the same theory hold for our favourite herb? Is there a benefit to watering "at night" as it were?

Thoughts?

I always water as soon as lights come on.

The main reason you shouldnt water your plants in the garden during the day is because you usually just water the entire plant top to bottom which causes burning from the sun. The same is true if you water your whole special herb. But you only water the soil you are growing in.

My idea is that by doing it early on in your light cycle the plants have enough time to soak it up during the day. If you water just before lights go out the runoff which comes out of the bottoms of your pots could contribute to a higher RH during the dark period and could inevitably result with PM issues (powdery mildew)

How have you found those airpots?

My local Hydro store cant keep up with the amount that are flying from the shelves.

Im a bit unsure yet myself.

Ah, well...never used them before actually but i bought 9 of them today from progrow. I had a chat with a guy from growell in fulham and he said they are selling a lot. In theory they sound great, in practice...who knows. Tell you what i will do, i will grow one or two of the SLH in normal pots and do a bit of a compare and contrast and do a thread with findings. Hopefully the temps here in london will stay cooler longer term ( i have been strugeling with heat in the grow room) as from what i have read, these airpots increase the need for watering.

Yes they do

They work by air pruning the roots which in theory causes the plant to send out more feeder roots and then they are air pruned. Apparantly you could grow a 4ft tall plant in like a 6litre air pot. Which sound crazy but i may have to get a couple and do that same thing.

If you are suffering with temps how are you venting your grow?

Give me the run down of your grow i might be able to help with the heat issues you have.

Here is a link to mine if you want to check it out.

Its a bit long. I think im up to 30pages now and im only 32 days into 12 12.lol

If you manage to get through it all i will +rep you for doing it.

Plenty of helpfull info and tips in there too.

Cheers mate, i really appreciate the help.

Grow room is 1MX1MX1.8M, Rhino Filter, 400wHPS bulb, 400w MH, Fans 400m extraction fan etc. Basically, the grow room is the back bedroom, i had very bad ventilation in the room so i have laid some more piping and even got a portable aircon unit for the very hot days. Some days it was nearly +40c in the grow room on the hot days....with all my work and cooling, i have it down to 25-30c constantly. Seen a huge improvment in growth actually. I live in a top floor flat as well so all that rising heat was a bit of an issue. Im actually looking forward to autumn and some nice cold weather! Its such a learning curve, i didnt start my growing until i had read everything i could think of, covered every senario but you learn by doing and making mistakes ( of which i made all the classic ones!) but im now confident in a bigger grow. i had 5 fem cheese going, killed 2 of them, but had some random seeds in a bag of weed i bourght, and they germinated amazingly and i planted them, they were female, and they are budding better than the cheese!

I will defo check out your thread man and will hammer through it...plus get some pointers when i do my journal...

Again man, thanks for help and im glad there are a lot of UK growers here to bounce ideas off too.

they are all bagseed lol

so it shows you can grow good stuff from bagseed. However i have no bagseed left now so i have to buy some new beans for my future grow. BUt no bother as i am growing a mother plant next time.

I take it if you are on the top floor you have an attic space? Could you vent up there?

another option is to take a big enough pipe to your stench pipe and pipe your hot air through there.

Another option is a window vent but then do you really want that kind of attention?

You could also duct the hot air into another room? Bedroom or bathroom. If you choose the bathroom you could have a bathroom window vent and have that running constantly which could help.

also have you considered using cooltubes?

By fitting a cooltube into my closet i dropped my temps from 32C down to 27C on the hot days and now during this slightly colder weather no higher than 25.1C

i also run my lights during the night time and lights off during the day. This also helps with temp control.

Really?...Well they look shit hot mate. I havnt quite thought about cloning yet, i will look into that with the SLH (Its fricking pricey buying all these seeds)

Unfortunatley no attic space....i live in rafters as the flat is an attic conversion. The air con unit seems to be doing the job during these hot summer months, plus im always aware of the eye in the sky.

Cant wait for a couple more weeks to harvest....that first smoke of my own home grown....going to be SWEET!!! (Hopefully =))

i run my lights through the day....thought process being the copper chopper wont see a increase of temp during the day where it may during the nightime. I think tho that over the winter, what with everyone having the heating on constantly (plus the electric is cheaper at night) i will swith to flower like you

Have you considered what you will do for drying them???

I have a box that i designed which if you have more than 5ounces you could make either a bigger one or a couple of them.

You want the link to the thread?

also if you read my thread i cover cloning in it too. As i tried my hand at cloning from the 4 that i grew. Only 2 have survived but 1 was male.

J

Well.... i went a little bit crazy on progrow website and bourght a massive drying net device ( dont judge) so i think i will be using that, but for sure, i will be reading your link and taking notes

make sure you read the whole thread it gets the addition of PC fans mounted to it to help with air flow.
