electric bill? And maybe yours as well?

Thank you for opening my post. Here is my question for the forum:

I am currently in my very first grow/cycle and I am in my 4th week of flowering with 6 girls of medicine of the Shiva Skunk #5 strain.

In the last 30 days, due to the extreme cold here in CA, I had to introduce an electric heater to my girls at night. Just one heater set at low, not high. In just 30 days this little fucker raised my electric bill $100. And I have done absolutely NOTHING different, JUST the addition of the $20 electric heater from Target.

So, what OTHER heating options do I have here? I had no idea these little electric heater fuckers were so $$$$!!!!!!!!!

Thank you very much in advance

what kinda lights are you using? HID will put off a good amount of heat.. this time of year you should be good if there is some insulation in the room. and get a 15 dollor heater from walmart for when the lights are off.

thank you very much for your replys Riddleme and Big Puffer!

RM- ya man, 1500 watts that sounds about right. Shit, that is more wattage than my lights!!! i will have to search Cruzer's posts to find what hes using

BP- Im using 2 HID 1K lights. They give off a SHI*LOAD of heat during their 12 hrs, but at night, the room gets down to sometime below 60 degrees :( During the day, the girls are at 75-80, and at night down to 55-60 which I feel is just too cold :(

I was just kidding, I have also read in several places that you want around a 15 degree difference between night and day temps

You can get one at lowes that uses 750.... If you have central heating and air you could always splice off of your ducting and route it in to your area, and then scrub it, and vent it back in to your house, it wouldn't change your bill much at all, if any.

Don't air cool if you are. Just making
sure. run it with the sheild off. Insulate your area.

An incandescent black light that runs at 25 watts produces barley any light and gets very warm. I used that to warm a 2x3x2 area that was 40 degrees and kept it to close to 80. If you can find place to put that at the bottom of your grow area, it should help and not cost as much to operate.

My bill went up 100.00 last month
running a heater too :-(

Changed my 600 dig to 1000 mag that
took care of my lights on low heat problem. Now iam working on lights off.
I have 6"duck that i get fresh air from
another room.Iam thinking of running
100 watt light bulb in front of the duct.
As it pulls air though it will heat up????

Since me small cabinet was getting down to 58 degrees overnight, I had to introduce a small heater to the cabinet. What I did, since I did not want to have it running all night during the dark cycle, was to buy a wall thermostat which is wired to a wall outlet. This wall outlet only receives power when the thermostat shows that the temperature falls below a certain temperature. The small heater is plugged into the wall outlet that is running through the wall thermostat. Seems to work fine. Now my grow cabinet runs from 86 degrees during the light cycle, and 68 degrees during the dark cycles.
