i find dead beetle shells in my organic soil while sifting through dirt for transplanting all the time. doesn't seem to bother my ladies...

you wanted personal opinions on this im guessin. well thats basiclly what this site is for, and IMO i would never put even the shell casings of a bettle or whatever kind of bug, due to the fact that i dont think anyone know the rate they will take water in, and roots are fragile what says they can travel through these casings. you could become root bound easier i belive. and again this is all IMO so you are stuck with experiementing if you want. though if this is just a first time grow or even just a grow to have your personal and you dont have extra room to experiment, i wouldnt.

All dirt is is rotting or rotted plant and animal matter. It's perfectly fine,as long as you're not trying to make a mulch or soil out of only dead bug carcasses.
