It was an extremely honorable thing to say- and it might have cost him the election. The right wing is no longer used to civility in their politicians and they don't suffer them well at all anymore.

The modern neo-con to alt-right movement has performed a very succesful take over of American Conservative Christianity. Brilliant but aweful move. Conservative politics now are as much, and has now moved to more important, a part of many peoples faith than feeding of the poor, taking care of the sick and dying... The brilliantness of it is when you intertwine them it allows you to get people to express political belief with the save fervancy they do religous ones, religion is not a fact based concept-period. Now what an easy seguay for politics to need no set of solid facts. Brilliant move but evil.
I am Christian, but not of this mindless order. I beleive all roads lead to the same destination post mortem, this is the tradition I chose to express myself with while loving all the other faith traditions (Including Atheism) of the world as equal brothers. I come from a denomination that is home of many of our hispanic immigrants, and it burns my chaps when we find time at Church to pray for the unborn and stopping of abortion but I hear nothing of prayers for the persecuted immigrant... Time for "Life Walks" but no talk of protesting the persecution of the immigrant. I despise what the conservative marketing machine did with religion. I am a Christian and I am extremely progressive, I hate that that makes me a minority in the faith community, makes no sense to me, if anything it should be polar damned opposite! ugg.
