Meanwell driver cooling needed at all?

Hiya,

I know electronics usualy work or last longer in cooler temps, but-

Do the meanwell drivers need to be a certain temp to function at peak efficiency properly? The heatsink is fine, air cooling by fan drops it from a high of only 140 to 105- is it even worth cooling it?

I never worried about drivers getting hot. I always had and issue of them making the inside of my tent hot. I also keep my drivers mounted to a board and outside the tent.

Multiple single Board lights, all with heatsink and driver on top. Drivers don’t get all that hot, lots of ventilation.

Put the drivers outside the grow tent. Problem solved. They can get quite warm to the touch and they will add a small amount of heat to the grow area but they don't usually get that hot to begin with that it will interfere with driver performance. It's the LEDs you need to keep cool to increase performance. That will make the biggest difference.

My HLG’s don’t get too hot without active cooling, but my XLG’s sure do. I’ve found that a cheap 6” clip fan pointed at the driver is enough to keep the XLG’s luke-warm.
