medium question:

so i couldnt get my hands on any perlite, and i have EXTREMELY hot soil.
i got ahold of some hydro pellets (or whatever you call em) to cut the soil a bit. you know... the brownish balls they use in a hydro setup?
my sproutling is doing very well.. standing up straight and all that.

am i looking at problems later on? sprout has been up and out of the soil for 3 days now with no sign of distress or damage whatsoever.

home depot sells big bags of perlite but they've been out the last 3x I've been there. They also have some indoor potting soil that is decent.

problem is, i live in belgium.
its next to impossible to find perlite, or even soil with perlite already mixed in. i special ordered a bag, but the place (as with nearly all belgian retailers) is incredibly unreliable, and they still havent called or received the shipment, 7 days after the expected date.
can anybody answer the question as to whether this is going to lead to problems later on?
seedling isnt showing any signs of distress, so im not exactly sure what to do.

When you say 'hot', you mean already loaded with ferts?
You don't have any hardware stores aside from Depot? Lowe's, Ace, even Wal Mart probably has perlite in the gardening section.
If it has what you believe to be too much nutes in it, can't you cut it with some non-fertilized soil?

Nice thing about those HD perlite big bags if they have a little rip the cut the price way down. :D Some places sell it as insulation too. Call around.

nah in belgium, its extremely hard to find anything chemical/mineral related. perlite can be used as a part of an explosive, apparently.... so its illegal to sell by itself. grrrr!
i once had to drive to holland to get a liter of lye pellets for eff's sake.

i found a retailer in germany who can ship to me for about 12 euro total (price+shipping) on an 18 quart bag.

thanks for the help, guys!

its not even that... here in belgium, they have a REAL universal healthcare system (i even get 80% cash back on chiropractor visits).... and so they regulate everything that has a remote possibility of creating a problem.
its absurd.... but the green giant is pretty well decriminalized here (basically the same laws as the netherlands w/o shops), so i cant complain about TOO much.

edit: i asked my stepdad (michigan militia), and indeed perlite can be used as an emulsion in homemade bombs.
dollars to donuts this is why its nearly impossible to track down inexpensively (without a commercial license).
