this is where i met collective gardener (who has a swank setup, btw):
https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/410253-vertical-bare-bulbs-tall-plants.html
(sorry cg patience is not one of my virtues when it comes to the interwebs... ;))

right now we have mostly og's with a handful of bubbas, although i think we're going to be acquiring some new ones in the next couple rounds here hopefully....

Kitty, no worries on shooting the link...that's what it's there for. That forum has lost a little energy and could use a boost, anyways. Honestly, I'm probably bonna be hanging out right here for getting my vert bulb info. I mean, shit...you guys are running the exact lighting settup I've been asking about. Hey Kitty, if you get a chance and it's not too much a pain, could you go up on a ladder and take a bunch of overhead shots of your op? I'm dying to see your op from above. I just can't get enough pics and info on those bare bulbs. In 1992 (first grow) they would have laughed me out of the hydro store if I mentioned bare vertical bulbs. Now, they are fastly becoming the rage. Kitty, are you guys runninbg CO2? What AC are you using?

the next time the camera, the stepladder, and i are in the same room i'll take some pics for you. is there anything specific? i'm guessing you want to get a sense of light/canopy distribution? anything else?

the first time i encountered vert bulbs was in the first large op i ever worked in, in '99. (kinda makes sense; i wouldn't have sprung for 60 aircooleds at the time either, and cooltubes were a dream within a dream). the same boss had a 200+ perpetual harvest show as well but i never got to see that one (*damn*, eh?), although apparently they were running the same dwc system with the same nutes (ABC), same strain (HP/champagne), same 1:3 ratio, everything (except of course they got more manpower), so i was told i wasn't missing anything except for a 6 hour drive in blackout shades and a bigger barn. (<-according to said boss, ABC was actually *designed *for growing HP hydroponically - have you heard anything about this?) (hated the stuff anyway; i've never had so many problems with fallout. stupid calcium nitrate pellets.)
we run co2, but that is a completely foreign process to me - hubby takes care of it. (i'm the one who forgets it's on until it stinks and i'm a bit woozy.... oops.) i don't know if he's installed it in this room yet....
as for AC, we sure don't need it yet (we consider ourselves lucky if we don't have to *heat the room still). i'll ask him which one it is (if i remember correctly it's installed somewhere i wouldn't want to get at it via a complex system of ducting).

Yeah, Kitty, you know me...it is the canopy/light layout I'd like to see. Whenever you get a chance...no rush.

I'm not familiar with ABC...or HP, for that matter. Don't even know what they stand for. LOL.

I'm starting to think the bare vert bulb (or "baverb", as I've been calling it), is a Canadian thing slowly moving south. Interesting that the large ops you worked were DWC. Were they linked together or individual?

i'm not sure exactly what the nute system was called - it was either A+B (which is -phucking stupid- because it's a 3 parter) or ABC. it was a white powder (calcium nitrate), a blue powder and a beige/tan powder; came in those white buckets that are just a shade bigger than ice cream pails. otherwise similar to any other 3 parter.
HP (in my world anyway) is HashPlant - you couldn't walk down the street without tripping on a HP or champagne (<-which is a glorified HP) grow in the late 90's/early '00s here. it was the fad that preceded kush (and *ducking* because someone's going to jump down my throat for calling kush a fad). tbh i don't miss it one bit. she was a finicky beotch. one hiccup and she'd throw in the towel on you.

'laughgani trees under baverbs' - folks are gonna be like '??? smoke something good cg?'

right now, of the shows i know, they are probably bulb-for-bulb half-half verts and aircool/tubes....and, well, *blowing on my nails and buffing them on my shirt* we only have some of the best of the best up here.... lol. maybe in another decade vert trees will have replaced scrog (<- *ya-ha ri-ght~*). cooltubes have made that style more accessible and popular in their time.

linked. (i know right? i have never seen so much pvc pipe in one room.) in 5 gals. which were invariably slightly too small and the roots would grow right into the system so it was a take down put together *every *bleeding *show... (i think i'm allergic to bleach as a result).

^ +reps because there aren't enough of us.

for our soil we're experimenting with soilless + a couple different manures; we *are using liquid ferts but they're grotek organic/earthsafe.
awesome.....looking forward, wishing you the best of luck... nugs

Hello MelloKitty, I stopped by so that I could get connected. I want to see the entire setup once you are completely plugged in and growing. I am looking forward to watching how you grow from start to finish. That's a big time setup you have there.

Oh, Kush is a fad. Just a long lasting one.

So, i guess you and the old man are Baverbers. And, to answer your question, I'm vaporizing a 13 week sativa with spindly loose buds, a wierd smell, no bag appeal, but gets you more high than a god made gift should. It's my own head stash plant. I grow 1 plant per year from clones I've been keeping alive for 10 years. It's so ironic. It has no commercial value, yet is the most powerfu,l best high I've ever experienced. Oh well....good times.

Damn, man that setup is real nice... I'm also subd to see how that supplemental lower lighting helps the nugs! Informative.

Kitty,

We need pictures. Pictures. Lots of pictures. I know as well as anyone how much a pain it is. But, we're kina out of the shadows now. Let's share our shit. That op of yours is so legit. I want to see it develope from it's beginning. Tell your hubby it's looking fantastic for me. Pictures.

@zeny: oops, our bad, that badboy isn't plugged in, it's just propped up there waiting to be hung up.... in fact i don't think they're even staying in there once we flip. there was the *small issue of the electrical not quite being finished (ehem!) when the girls came home so we just tossed up the best plug-and-play option we had kicking around for now. usually when the bottoms need beefing up we just trim the top 60 - 75% then let them do their thing for an extra week or so. thanks for tuning in, more to come!

(a la mad tv's miss swan:) uuuu, kay, i tell you evr'ting...
i will take pictures SOON, i promise. i have batteries now.
will definitely pass your kind words on to DH, and he will probably, in typical fashion, start talking about ALL THE SHIT that STILL needs to be done and how TIGHT we are for TIME now de blah blah blah but that's his way of taking a compliment so thank you both. ;)

just for shits and giggles: (and hey, it's a PIC, although not what you were hoping for...;))this is an experiment in supercrop/LST/something/??? . these girls fell over whilst being babysat and somehow ended up staying like that for a few days.... we just asked them to leave them like that to see what happens (we are maxed out on our allowance right now). i *think this is after about a week or so if i remember correctly. i have no idea what's next for these girls... ? what would you do?

Just stand em up. They'll sort themselves out. You may have to prune a bit if a bunch of leaves end up all piled on one another. I would upright them and then place the Baverb on the side that is now the bottom. The growth should wrap back around towards the light and even her out.

yeah but wouldn't it be cool to see what they do just like that, but in bigger pots?

note: the people babysitting for us, ironically, have a larger allowance than we do (ain't that the way?), they're just not maxing it out because they don't want to make structural changes/ screw with electrical/ etc. (*resounding sigh*)

so they're perfectly willing to just do these as a hobby/experiment. obviously they may not get the same rigour under fluoros, but the secondaries are showing some interesting potential for sure.
