If your going to trim it up, I would start with the very bottom branches to allow for more airflow underneath, if you make a nice 45deg cut you could use them for clones if you have an extra spot. I usually dont like messing with the plant all the much, the bottoms are one thing and later on you may need to trim a few fan leaves to allow light inside if their real bushy, but everytime your cutting its stressing the plant and slowing growth a bit, so try to keep it to a minimum and dont butcher the poor girl. If you plan to grow a 4 foot plant do you plan on adding side lighting since cfls don't penetrate very well? I ran into this problem using t5s and t12s and had to cut a lot of the bottom branches off. Also, once you start flowering the plant can grow 3x taller...have you considered topping the height back and just trying to grow a bushier plant so you only have to focus on lighting the tops? Now by topping the plant, it would cease the vertical growth, but does it encourage horizontal growth?

Ok, Well I did some barber work on the girl to get out some of the pointless growth and to lighten her load. I am not seeing any formings of flowers yet, but I am only a week into flowering. I would put up pics if I could find my camera, but you know how stoners are lol!

Definitely have been seeing signs of the flowers. I switched to lighting to a 150w CFL, but I might be receiving a 150w either MH or something else that is better than CFLs. I know the light set up is about $150 or something for the hood and fixture with the light itself.

Alright, finally have some pics, I am 3 weeks into flowering now and things are looking quite well. I have close to 5-6 different top colas, one main on that towers above all and the others. Imagine if you will the city where the final battle in the Lord of the Rings is held, only made of weed! I put her under 1 150w CFL and I know I need some side lighting, but as always, money is tight. I did finally do some barber work on it and it seems to be doing fine. This is my first plant and a learning process, so constructive criticism is always welcome!

looks like you cut the shit out of that one plant. that will slow it down for sure. When i prune back leavse it only because they need to come off or about to fall off. as far as cutting for clones you can use the ones you cut off. best from the bottom. but those big fan leaves that you cut were storage units if you will, i try to leave them untill they turn yellow and fall off. Most the time ill cut about 4 - 6 nodes up leaveing the fan leaves just cutting the branch. and as the plant grows it will let you know when te leave needs to come off. or just fall off. bottom branchest dont produce much any way.

Yeah, I read about the fan leaves being a power source for the buds to grow, found that out a bit late. So you are saying that you start at the bottom of the plant and go up 6-4 nodes when pruning? This plant went through some hard times, some malfunction in rigging causing some weird growth to happen. about 5 weeks into veg, the light dropped on the plant and forced it to grow like 4 different stalks. Definitely glad to get advice on it, I have stopped making any cuttings just waiting about 7 more weeks 'til she should be ready.

Okay so I wasn't expecting her to be ready for at least another week, but a lot of her bud hairs have turned red. check it out and let me know what you think.

gorgeous buds. i'd say they are pretty darn close. i wouldn't yell at you if you killed them now. they may still bulk up a little as well, if you have the patience.

Thanks man. I originally planned on them finishing not this sunday but next. That way they would be done curing after finals are over. would you say another week is to long?
