Metal Halide questions.

Ok ive been usinf cfls for my veg stage. i boought a 400 watt hps for my flowering. i just harvested and im about to start my second grow. i want to switch to metal halide for my veg growth. One of my questions is that someone told me you can use a metal halide bulb in my hps setup. numerous people have told me this. Is it true/ can i use a MH bulb in my HPS setup? and i was looking for some MH bulbs. I came across an aquarium buulb that has a color rendition of 20,000 k. i know you want a bluer color for veg growth. would this light be better than a 6500 k mh bulb? Also, what is the best veg growth MH bulb and color? thankl you for your help? so what do u guys think.

the hps ballast will say on it or have a switch that has an mh setting if not do not do it! you can veg with hps but i hear mh is alil better just get a blue spectrum mh and your golden but then you will need an new fixture it all depends on your ballast dude

well i feel like it is just a hps. it doesnt have a switch and i dont think it says anything bought metal halide. so u dnt think its a good idea to try putting the same wattage MH bulb in the hps setup?

i wouldn't do it but thats just me i know a hps ballast can do a ceramic mh bulb there awesome and run with less heat the mh or hps

As far as this thread is concerned, I believe two things:
1. Some people tend to say really dumb shit - whether they know what the hell they are talking about, or not!
2. Every HID bulb has a "spec sheet" that tells (very clearly) which ballast, or ballasts, are compatable according to ANSI (American National Standards Institute). In other words - every bulb has an "ANSI Code" that tells which ballast is suitable.

While it is true that some bulbs will "fire up" in conjunction with the "wrong" ballast - that doesn't mean it's a good idea! A mismatched combination will lead to premature equiptment failure (either the bulb or the ballast, or both!).
