Im using MG Vegetable and Fruit soil.

I know MG soil isnt the best but i know it can be used.

I was wondering if mixing the MG soil with some basic soil from my backyard (not purchasing new soil I have 5 bags of MG from when my mother did her gardening) would be a good idea to
help cut down on all the nutrients in the soil. Also to help me flush later on, bc I need to flush one I believe its getting some kind of lock out.

nope. leave your back yard soil in the back yard. if you want to dilute your soil mix then add more peat/perlite

please get out of MG soil all together save urself the strong and efforts of learning a hard way! go with some simple fox farm soil, or go to a hydro store near you!

If you think your having lockout, then first you need to figure out why. Whats your ph? How old is plant? How often do you water.. etc..

Don't worry about the MG.
Show us some pics and tell us what you've been feeding, how often, PH, temps, lighting........
All the good info we need to accurately help you.
This plant germed until now in MG soil, MG perlite, and MG ferts until about 3 weeks into flower.

How much did that plant end up yielding bak?


The ive never checked the pH since i've never fed it. Temps have been 68-80 lights on 55-65 lights off. Humidity anywhere between 50-70% the past 2 weeks,
but it will remain in a lower range now as I've moved them to a new area.

I say they have lockout bc I know if you over water in MG then you can get nute burn, and I've read it can cause a build up or a lockout of certain nutes.

I say its got lockout because all the new growth seems like its just growing in, dead... bc of the color. The stems are orangish/purple and the new growth and tops just seem soo soo brittle.

Your RH is higher than I care for, especially once you go into flower, if you're not already.
Temps getting down into the 50's might slow your growth a little.
I would check your PH before you condemn your soil.
My water comes out at almost 8.0, but some guys are lucky and theirs comes out close to 6.5
We'll wait for pics, and I'm sure you'll get more help after that.

I have a filtered water system. The water in my area is considered "hard water" so We installed a straight mineral filtration system, the water comes out beautifully at 6.2

A little higher RH is ok in veg, it was outdoors in a grow box. I've brought them indoors now, the RH will be dropped and the temps will be much more constant as I've brought them inside.

Bak, Do you trim the under parts of your plants when u go to flowering?

lol dude....one thing ive learned if nothing else is if your grow weed and you want a good quality product you cant cut corners and you have to do it right. using soil from your back yard of anywhere else is a big no no and stop using god damn MG products for gods sake. i know you said "not buying new soil" but FUCK THAT! GO BUY SOME REAL SOIL!
there will be those few that are gonna show up and say that MG can work but your not going to get the same quality. ya maybe it will grow a plant, maybe it'll look alright but my biggest point is its not going to taste right. MG is eww and i can tell you any day if a bud was grown with MG.

I've trimmed off some of the lower center leaves little by little, because when I first put her into flower, I still only had the 98w of CFL's that I vegged with, but the upper growth was/ is so thick, I still have a little problem getting pight deep in there, even with 305w like I have now.

i am tired of defending mg products. ppl get confused. not all mg soils have time release fertilizer in it. the ones that do need to be avoided. i did more than one grow in mg organic choice and the end results were fine. if more growers would learn more about soil biology they would make their own mixes too. never used ff or any other high end soil line. it's too expensive if your growing a few hundred plants.

Using topsoil is not a good idea, you are bound to bring in some insects and fungi, which could turn out not so well.

Don't sweat the MG, people diss it but I've used it for decades with great results. This year I am growing in a mix of approx 40% MG Organic, 40% FFOF 10% vermiculite, 10% pearlite. It drains great and the plants love it.

A lot of nurseries sell their potting mix in bulk and that can be a real cheap way to go.

MG Organic is very usable..I am using it this run as a test..amended with bone/blood/dolomite/epsom salts/30% perlite/beneficial microbes. Flowering fine.. No issues so far. It was free and no $$$ for FF. I let it cook for abit.
