Hey Rollitup gang how's it been missed ya'll, well i'm back for my second grow got some new stuff did way with the CFL an got an iPower GLSETX600DHMAC6 600-Watt Light Digital Dimmable System for Plants - Air Cooled Hood Set now a quick question i recently hooked every thing up don't have duct yet for the hood just let it sit on for about 30mins dimmed to 50% now when i went to check on it the light had turned out digital ballast still running but bulb not on, i let the hood cool down an tried turning it back on an it lit back up. now is this because the light got to hot from no air movement or the ballast.....?

You probably need to run that bulb higher than 50%
Those ballasts that dim the bulb start out at full power, (or close to it anyway) to warm the bulb up before switching to lower wattage.
My guess is that bulb won't do 50% dim.

If its an air cooled hood you should take off the glass if your not running air through it. Might be frying your bulb.

so you think that wallpacks and street lights are not safe because they have the bulb and ballast completly enclosed with no air holes at all?

some bulbs need to be run at full power for a # of hours before dimming.
hey thanks for your response so here's an update i turned the ballast to 100% bulb fires up no problem runs for about 30 to 40mins i have it plugged in a brinks digital timer Model 44-1075, do you think that the ballast could be to much for the surge protect/timer port...? cause the bulb still goes out but ballast fan is still running turn ballast off for 3min fires back up could my ballast be bad cause you would think if it were the bulb it would have blown by now you would think right....?

i would try a new bulb first. usually they send a low quality bulb with the set up. when the bulb goes on and off the first thing to try is a known good working bulb.

is there a switch to set for hps or mh?

you can try and plug the ballast directly into the outlet and bypass the timer to rule that out.

make sure to wait about 10 -15 minutes for the bulb to cool down before trying to start it up again.
