MH in HPS Ballast...Fire Risk?

If you have a 400 watt HPS ballast and both 400 watt MH and HPS bulbs what are the risks of using the MH bulbs? I know they will work but the last thing someone would want is to come home to a burned down house.....

I searched this and found some info but not quite a real solid fact based answer to this question...

Chances are good that the MH lamp will eventually EXPLODE.

It isn't worth the risk, IMO. It will also more than likely void the warranty on your ballast with the seller/manufacturer.

good luck

Just get an MH conversion bulb for your HPS..about the same price and you
don't have to worry about burning down your house...

Those venture conversion bulbs are pretty cheap. I was not aware of conversion bulbs that answers my question. Thanks for the help...

You are underpowering your lamp so it probably won't blow up. Kinda surprised it fired to be honest..but have never tried such a thing to see. (fwiw, you are only getting 70 watts out of that 400)

why not spend the $$ on the correct lamp..a 70 watt?

Doing that to a 400 watt bulb is bad .70 watts and if you were to use it in the 400 watt light the bulb will brun out fast.A 70 watt bulb is cheap, and you know you are getting true 70 watts. Peace
