MH vs HPS for veg.

I am replacing a bulb I have been using for mother plants soon. It is a 250 watt HPS. I have a switchable ballast, so I can go with either as a replacement..so, is it honestly THAT much better for MH in veg than HPS?

yes MH has a better light spectrum for veggin then does the HPS, thats why most use both, when u switch to flowering, HPS as more of a blue hue and its triggers flowering, as compared to MH that triggers growth AKA veg.

Yep, afraid so. You're lucky to have a switchable ballast. For one thing, your bulbs will last a lot longer if you only use them half as much, and you will get the benefit of specific wavelength light for veg and for flowering.

i personaly like to veg with a blue spectrum..but some people use hps lamps to veg...you get a real fat stock with hps veg plants...but i like the tight nodes that mh gives

I have only used MH - in flowering.. an accident on my first grow with 1000 watt combo kit :P

I have heard MH produces tighter node spacing.. but my HPS isn't a slouch from my experience in that regard either.

Just wondering if there was a noticable benefit in veg.... apparently... so I will get MH replacement... thanks for the input guys.

Digital ballasts are usually switchable - no? why are my MH bulbs going to last longer? I've never heard that before... if it's true.. that's a cool bit of info - thanks...

and I know I haven't been around alot lately.. but congrats on the MOD'ership...
