Yes, there are many crappy lights out there now. I only go with the UL listed stuff offered by well-established, American-based companies such as Timber and Nextlight. I also bought an Area 51 light years ago because it was lauded as being one of the best at the time...but good ol' Jeff (the owner) bounced. I guess there's always going to be some risk involved, but if I'm playing the odds, then I'm going to opt for the safest examples that I can get for an unattended grow (which is what the OP described). Having said that, I, personally, would NEVER leave a grow unattended no matter what kind of lights were being used. I don't believe that unattended grows can be truly safe. I also believe that a MH light can be just fine for growing weed, too....in fact they are GREAT for growing weed! But, I believe that are also more dangerous, in general. I understand there are exceptions.

Is this safe to run unattended 24/7 in a closet w vinyl flooring
I would t do that lol. A fire is my only concern from my grow safety wise because I prefer to use HID in flower although I do veg under LED. That said I have my lights hung in the center of a room, concrete floor, properly grounded etc. smoke detectors the works
Melts right through the tent
For sure . I run HID in flower still but in the center of a room, away from walls on concrete floors lol. Properly grounded of course.double post my bad
