Micro SOG Grow using Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil...what to mix? if anything?

Hi all, I'm just beginning a micro grow in my closet where i plan to veg seedlings/clones (when the time comes) until they are about 5 inches tall and then moving them to the flower cabinet. In the flower cabinet I plan to have my plants in two clusters for two different harvests. The heights of the lights will be adjusted accordingly. The plants will be grown in SOG fashion at about 4 per square foot. This SHOULD produce two "shelves" of tops. Anyways...should I mix anything in with the soil? I bought worm castings but I am a little bit weary of adding those. I may add them when I recycle the soil. I also was planning on doing some perlite but I noticed that Ocean Forest already has a decent amount in it. If you think I should mix anything in with the soil let me know at what stage. I have already germed a decent amount of seeds (but have plenty more) and plan to go ahead and plant them in the soil straight up.

Any information would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time working with legit products...did a Miracle Gro set up to get my toes wet and now I'm ready! Thanks so much. I will be starting a journal in another thread within the next week. Check back for a link to the thread

More perlite will not hurt at all. When it looks like there is too much, it's just right. "I" use 30-40% perlite.

Powdered dolomite lime or powdered oyster shell is also a good idea. 1tbl/gallon of mix, or 1 cup/cf of mix. Mix into the soil before use.

That's kinda what I figured with the perlite. The more there is the more you water...and the more times nutes are applied (of course you can overdo it but I get the picture). However, shouldn't I test the pH before adding lime? I will add perlite when I transplant the seedlings.

What about the worm castings? Anybody think I will need them at all? I've seen some amazing results from organic growers using worm castings...Also, should be noted that I'm probably not going to use any veg nutes. I have FF Tiger Bloom for flower.

Fox Farm users encouraged to respond and share their mixes! Thank you all so far +rep

If you do the EWC, you will DEFINITELY need more perlite. Do not go over 20%, WC are very heavy in the mix. I use it for everything (have 4 bins) and it's great.

You can check the pH if you want, but lime has a pH of 7.0 and will not go above this. Take a bit of the FFOF, wet it down and then check the run off, but I'll bet it's below 6.

Lime is easiest added to the dry mix before planting. Adding it with the perlite is the way I do it and then the EWC. Or, the EWC first and then the lime and perlite. No matter.

Wow great info, thanks yet again...but I have to ask..what is EWC an acronym for? haha Is there any specific type of lime that you use? And just to clarify, do you mean 20% worm casting? So you would say 30% perlite 20% worm casting 50% FFOF? With the lime added in there too of course...Let me know, thanks so much!

EWC= Earth Worm Castings

Lime=POWDERED (NOT pellets), Dolomite Lime. Lowes has 40# bags (It's called ground dolomite lime), for a bit over $5. The only place I've found the powdered.
