Government officials will be available to answer questions from the media following a statement.

Time

Announcement: 3:30 pm EST
Technical Briefing: 4:15 pm EST

Dana Larsen is of the opinion that this will be giving police increased powers to search mail, but I'm really not sure what it will be about. Involving Health and CBSA would seem to back that theory though.

Now I am going to be wondering all day what it is. Are they going after seeds???????? If so that is fucked up. Or are they going to decrim today???? who the hell knows.

CBSA would seem.to indicate importation of seeds. so no more ordering seeds from abroad perhaps..

another possibility is they're going to announce hc is going take cbd out of the cdsa, and just want to let everyone know it's cool to order cbd from whereever (not likely)

My wife said it might have to do with fentnal, and giving new powers to check mail for it, but I would imagine that could effect seeds too.

Yeah, I think it will likely have to do with fentynal and opiates. I can't see them making an mj announcement unless they are releasing the task force report.
Agreed, at the end of the day seeds probably account for a very small percentage of all illegal imports, IF that, maybe even a fraction of a percent. Ever watch Border Security? lol

From Twitter, Andrea Woo of Globe and Mail:

Ottawa will also allow CBSA to open packages 30 grams or less. (Currently need permission of recipient.) Much fentanyl gets in this way

All incoming packages will be inspectable if there are reasonable grounds to be suspicious

but we all know this is more about controlling Cannabis seeds. .
Do we? I think the focus is actually on fentynal and the chemicals to produce and those packages are coming from China . A few cannabis seeds may be innocent victims, but who orders seeds from China? I don't think the seed market is going anywhere.
Who uses Canada Post for anything anymore, anyway? Buy local!

Yep harming cannabis seed sales is a 'side benefit', the new bill (C-37) is aimed at removing barriers to open safe injection sites / combating Fentanyl.

Details will be in the bill but from the announcement this doesn't have anything to do with Canada Post, any packages coming into the country will be inspectable based on 'reasonable grounds', and I'm sure those 'reasonable grounds' would include the sender being cannabisseedsrus.com or something similar.
