Misting your plants

I'm wondering what would be best, or what do you do?

Would it be best to mist your plants with PH balanced water?

Would be better to mist your plants with a balanced nutrient soultion that is also ph balanced?

Or is it ok' just to mist with plain distilled water?

Or is it ok' to mist with carbonated water?

Or is it ok' to mist with tap water?

Plus, is it ok' to mist the tops of the leaves or underneath?

Lastly, when is the best time of day to mist?

Unless you have a problem that needs immediate correction there is no reason to mist the plants with any nutes,i only mist if there is a real need & then i use water with a high ph level, the higher ph levels help to eleminate the chance of mold or powdery mildew which are increased in risk every time you mist, high ph does not effect the leaves at all.

Unless your plants are dried out or are experiencing a problem your best bet is to stay away from misting them,if you do need to correct a problem its best to time the misting where its done in lights out with enough time allowed for all the water on the plants to dissapate before the lights come back on.

You talking misting the foliage right? In my hydro set up I use a fogger in the res to give off a fine mist on the roots. In soil, I do mist my leaves from seedling to finished with just plain old ph'd tap water.:peace:

I'm in the non-misting camp.

It's usually a battle in most grows in flowering to keep humidity low to reduce the incidence of bud mould (botyritis, grey mould), powdery mildew, etc but not low enough to make spider mites comfy.

Aside from occasional spraying for powdery mildew with various products (none which really ever worked for me), I've not made a practise of spraying any plants, whether clones, mums or flowering plants.

A sulfur 'burner' in my flowering area solved my powdery mildew probs. Runs on a timer, 8 mins, 2x day, 1 hr before lights on and 1 hr after lights-off. Problem is gone, task of PM prevention is now automated. Nothing like it.

Some misting is ok and probably beneficial. But only to a point. To mist with a very mild nute solution will work ok. Just be careful and dont mist your hid bulb or it might burst.
Also once any flowering starts its best not to mist.
And once buds start to show significantly mold is almost guarenteed misting your plants.
I have misted plants before and they seem to like it when they are small or just out of being cloned.
Good luck.

Hi,

To better answer your question, you should provide us with a bit more information. What is the relative humidity in your grow room/where you live? Is your grow room air tight or not?

I live in Colorado and it's pretty dry; the relative humidity in my grow room is around 25% on average. Therefore, I like to mist my plants whenever I go down there. Now then, if you are not using supplemental CO2, then I would suggest purchasing carbonated water from your local grocery store and misting your plants with that. The added CO2 boost is excellent for them.

Hmmmm... strange... I read that the more acidic (lower PH) the water the better for preventing mold from growing. Perhaps I got it wrong and need to go back and re-read.... I have so much to learn still :(

Always fucks up my mylar.I only do it in emergencies and i think the grow bible says the temp needs to be around 70 for the plants to get the emerg nutes to the right spot.Need to read up on it again. But the plants organs open at 70f like i said its been awhile since i read up on it.

low PH makes more sense to me for mold prevention as the acid should keep it away.. but I don't mist so I wouldn't know

Misting and maintaining a proper humidity level is very good for the plants. It helps keep pests away, especially misting the leaves regularly. Just don't drown them. A fine spray of mist is all they need to deter infestation.
