Mixed lighting question first grow

Noob question , I have a new room set up with 2-600 watt Hps my question is I have some 4' t12 fixtures and a case of 45 watt bright bulbs. would it be any benefit to add those for side light to the grow. One more nooby question, I get mixed reading info (=confused) on the use of HPS and MH bulbs , which one is best for veg and or bloom stage :?: thanks

Veg plant use a high amount of "blue light" in the 400-500nM spectrum flowering plant need more in the 600-700nm spectrum (red/fare red)

HPS light is mostly in the range of 2000-3000 Kelvin and peak in the red/fare red spectrum and a MH is more in the region of 5000-7000K and peak in the blue

but plants need all color of light all grow, just more "blue" in Veg. and more "Red" in flowering

(if I had two 600W and they could run both HPS and MH I would run the two MH in veg and one of each in early and late flowering with both the HPS in the middle of flowering

about the T12, need to be with in a few inch`s to provide strong enough light to do any good, not like a 600W HID that can provide good strong light 2-3 ft away

agin, if it was me I would try to set up a "Veg" room, no need to be light proof or have any big ventilation system as odor is minimal, just for air circulation, and use em to make small veg plant`s ready so you kind a "cut" off some week`s of your next grow

Ok, thanks Slipon ! got it the hps and mh use clear now. And I did start my seedlings on a 4 bulb T5 set up for the last 6 weeks, there ready to hit the 600 watter this Thursday when I get my dehumidifier installed in my new grow room. I do have 2-600 waters side by side but only 6 plants to start with going under so I plan to run 1 light for now. the question on the T12's was if there was any benefit to adding them on the side like close to the floor pointing into the canopy. I realize there not the correct growing spectrum and are week but since I have them wondered if was worth adding them to the flowering/budding room at that point or a waste of time and power. This is all new stuff but learning is fun , thanks

1 light for now sounds good.
Consider looking at the 'enhanced spectrum' lamps. They try to offer to offer a broader spectrum of light. I got a Ushio HPS lamp, and would be OK vegging with it.
(I don't though. I got a T5 HO, and don't veg that long...)

I don't think the T12 setup you discuss is going to help much. They would not hurt, except for the heat/$$.
If growing is new to you, a good rule of thumb is K.I.S.S. You will learn alot, and maybe experiment later on.

agree, keep it simple, and yes one 600W for now is plenty for 6 small plants and IMO the T12 i a wast of power/money, keep them for clones etc.

I completely agree T12's are only good for clones and small seedling, they have absolutely no intensity to them and are almost worthless at a distance. T5 H.O. and T5 V.H.O. are the way to go as far as that is concerned. :peace: out.

Ya ....ok ....so much for that thought :wall: but glad you all piped in so I wouldn't have tried them as a side light to learn it was a waste. I love this symbol :wall: cracks me up , learned to take it in stride thought :bigjoint:
