MNS Ortega

The Maple Leaf came from a guy known to me as Jim Ortega. We traded seeds for a while. Not only did he supply me with Maple Leaf, but also Garlic Bud and Kush 4. The cannabis smoking world owes him a lot.
The Maple Leaf line provided me with a plant that I labeled Afghan T. This plant is the mother of Super/Ultra Skunk and also crossed well with HzC. Kush 4, I crossed with NL2(which had the same Kush smell) and this Kush Hybrid is the foundation of todays Kush lines......Some of the AfgT and AfgS (ML) crosses with skunk went towards lemon. In particular AfgS. AfgT x Hz C also had haze lemonish phenos. It's well worth fishing in those lines..
If u find it.....u know what to do.

See I thought Ortega was nl1 x nl5, that's what the attitude description says. N I was so pumped to get a pure nl line bc the only other 1 I've seen that is described as pure was sensi's n it's $200 n change, and I've also heard that there beans aren't what they used to be.

thanks for the rec. sshz i did grow medman but my yield was less then LUI and i am looking for what most resembles that stocky lemon pheno of LUI. i seem to get great yield and quality from black widow and the women love it. they have been spoiled for yrs

I hear you.....nothing wrong with any of those choices. But if you top/pinch Medicine Man once or twice, I think M.M. will out yield them, at least from my experience. I'm guessing style of grow, lightage, nutes, etc. would also have a large impact.

i was only getting about 3oz dry a plant soil 4ft tall compared to 6oz on avg with widow. i trained mm instead of top/pinch and that mit be the difference. The lui was a yield beast for me

Get PeakseedsBC NL. Cheap, and it reminds me completely of old school NL. Nice fully body/mind stone that's super relaxing. Puts a smile on your face. Same kind of smells. It's just a great version of it IMO. I have a long time keeper from 6 beans of it I popped if that says anything and it makes me want to pop the rest that I have.

I've read many great reports on them, cheap seeds and good quality. NorthernBerry is the first strain they offered and I know they've been working on it for like 10 years. People that have grown most of their stuff state it's all very good, although they all have different favorites.

Sk1 and ML(ort) lines have thrown hermies before. What you going to do, throw the baby out with the bath water?
When ever I got hermies I blame the male. Lots of females can produce pollen. You can't throw them all out. As a breeder I've progeny tested many males on the same female. Some exacerbate the problem some suppress it.
wow thats an interesting comment. maybe this explains something: why can feminized seeds be straight up males sometimes? i had a CH9 aroma go 100% male on me.

perhaps its an issue that originally was overlooked in males that can produce hermie tendancies... (regardless of the situation above)

Does this mean that you breed with females that show show male flowers? Doesnt that add to the herm issue? I would think that if a female showed male flowers, it shouldnt be breed with?
Here's the thing, and I think Neville will agree, some landrce strain are just plain hermaphroditic. Most Thai, South Indian and African landrace strains are either all hermies or they have very high percentage of hermie genes and allele expression in their chromosomes. When those strains are used for breeding and subsequently the crosses that were made using them are used for breeding those hermie trait are passed down it is upto the breeder to either slect it out or leave it in. I have a Durban Poison mom I grew from seed that will hermie if you light a bic lighter one time in the room during dark cycle, and puts out bananas at the end no matter what the bananas are not really viable.so they cuase no damage. It really was the most potent of the Durbans I've had, so I've kept it and treat it with kid cloves I am currently crossing that Durabn mom with a Ken's GDP male. We'll see what that f1 like, soon. So sometimes if you want to traits and the lfavors and the potency that you get froma Thai then you'll have to tolerate some of the issues that come with it. Its a completely diferent animal when you reverse a female and use it for breeding but thats a diferent discussion. And to answer the question from an earlier post It was Soma that started doing that and created his line of herie producing seeds. Soma was the breeder of the original Diesel.

Soma was the breeder of the original Diesel.
You blew all your credibility with that. Even Soma says he got the seed from a friend of his, they were called Diesel, his friend said it was the best weed he ever smoked and having dreads down to his feet (not exact quote) he figure he knew what he was talking about. Soma was the first to enter the Cannabis Cup with NYCD. In the few years following it became apparent there was multiple deisel and crosses circulating the country (mostly east) the were all more pure than Soma's. But thank for trying. Oh and I'm not claiming to know the orgins of anythings, just pointing out you don't either.

Ouch......

Anyway, I popped all 15 of my Ortega's and they are a little of 2 weeks in veg. All healthy and doing well......not sure what I'm looking for in the strain anymore as I'm confused as hell.....I guess I'll let the potency guide me when their finished.

As much as I wish it were true. This is not the real nevil posting. I'm not claiming any info to be false. Just have a hard time believing nevil is posting specially with his new lines out and all the ? Around them. There would be 1000 post the same day nevil post any thing. Just my 2 cents.

Ive done peakseeds NL & NL crosses and comparing to MNS ortega is like comparing a pinto to a ferrari. Ortega is in a complete different catagory in the potency dept. Ortega will knock ur dick in the dirt

I thought I'd give an update on my "Ortegas"......... I popped 15, but now I'm thinking it was only 14. Two didn't pop. The 6 males were killed off. The 6 females are day 19 into flowering. No hermies (yet), very healthy and easy to care for. They maybe doubled in their stretch, not much smell, all appear to be the same pheno. Here's a pic.....

Found a single banana last night on 1 plant......just pinched it off. A little worrisome but the plants look great......nice resin production already. Day 24 in flowering....

I did trim the lowest 20% of the branches previously to increase air flow and make it easier to water. I've read the "reduced water" requirement before and have been waiting an extra day before I would normally water.....I'll be going thru the room again shortly looking for more bananas.......

Pic is day 27 in flowering......wow, they are going to be light yielders for sure compared to the other things I have going, quality better be there because even an oz. a plant is questionable! I've been thru the room today and studied each plant- I found (so far) a single banana on 3 different plants- around half way down the plant on the main stem. Just pinched them off, no problem. It didn't appear the pods were mature enough yet to have produced any pollen. Still all in all, very healthy, carrying a nice deep green color, easy to grow and maintain. They stayed rather short after a 28 day veg too, which I like- not too much stretch.
