Very true. Cxb25''s is a great idea. They're max wattage is around 60 so 500ma would be decently bright.
It is. I have 3070s, 2530s and vero18s running between 5-700ma. No reason to spend $50+ on a small increase in efficiency IMO. The $3 a month it saves me on electricity won't cover the upfront costs lol. Plus I can replace without thinking about it every time new arrays come out. Which I don't think would be the same if I paid for the 3590s.

Why don't you get twice as many 3070s or Vero29s you'd be cheaper than the 3590s and more efficient than running the 72v 90s.

Also the vero18s and cxb2530/40s are still very efficient at 500ma and would cost a fraction of the 3590s. As it seems you are more focused on cost than efficiency.

I'm not against efficiency, but I'm not sure there would be a noticeable difference in efficiency.
Why is everyone hating on the 72v version?
Is there a chart somewhere that would show the input/output/efficiency etc. of various cobs at various currents? I thought I had seen one on here before but can't find it now.

No one is hating on them l, just there are cheaper/better options at 500ma without sacrificing much if any efficiency. Vero 18s are $10. Cxb2530s are $9.20. Google cxb efficiency in images and it'll link you to the thread with all of them.

You can also put 3 of the Vero 18s per driver.
It would still be cheaper than one of the 72s and would be more light.

I was going to run 72v 3590 on my galaxy hydro drivers but they are about 80-90 each where I live and id need 3. In the end I run 6 CXB2530 that cost me 60 total.

I didn't think I'd ever earn the cash back but in terms of brightness 3x 3590 should be much higher than 6 x 2530.

I'll post up the cree calculator later

He can run 3 of the vero18s on each driver which would actually put out more light than 1 72v 3590. And would cost about the same for 9 of them as 1.5 of the 3590s, plus the driver would be pretty much maxed out and get its best efficiency.

After days of research and more research, I'm building a light from scratch.
A 4.8 inch by 20 inch heatsink from heatsinkusa.com with 2 fans on it
2 CXB3590
1 Vero 29
HLG120-1400
This whole setup is around 230 bucks, say 250 by the time it's all done, and it should rock the house with light. I have a 24x18 cabinet that is in need of something and this might be my answer. Any opinions on this venture are appreciated.

If the case is almost packed with heatsinks, it can handle 9 vero 18 actively cooling. I'm thinking about putting 6 of them external, passively cooled and keeping the other 3 in the case with the drivers. This is going into an 18 x 24 space with 2 plants so an "H" configuration might be best anyways. I'll post pics when all its all done.

Now if the Vero 18s are more efficient than the blurple LED panel it came with, why would it need additional cooling? Same power from the wall, those electrons have to be going somewhere, if not light or heat, where are they going?

Where are you finding the Cxb for $9.20? Prices I'm seeing are ~$20 each when ordering <20. How about source for Vero18's too

Cutter.com/au @welight can tel you if they still have them for that price. Was for the 3000k high cri 2530s. Vero 18s are $11 now on digikey though so I would probably go that route. I'm currently using the v22s. More efficient than the Vero 18s, almost on par with the 3070s and Vero 29s for $15.
