Moniker's Kosher Kush Grow

First grow journal here on Rollitup! Bear with me, and if you guys have any questions, feel free to ask!

Lighting: 150w HPS + 2x 2ft T5 CFL fixtures, ea with 1 "grow" bulb and 1 "flower" bulb
Medium: Sunshine Advanced #4 Soilless Mix (organic), in a 10gal container
Strain: Reserva Privada's Kosher Kush
Ventilation: 4in inline fan w/ carbon filter. Fan sucks air directly off of the HPS to help keep temps lower, and exhausts through the carbon filter.
Tent: 2ft x 3ft x 5ft
Nutrients: Biobizz Grow, Biobizz Bloom, Fox Farms Big Bloom (all organic)
Water: Store bought distilled water

This grow started out with all sorts of issues. My water comes from a well, and is HARD. I have a water softening system, which I naively thought would be "good enough", but quickly realized how harsh it was on my baby plant. After about 2 weeks of battling to keep my seedling alive (thinking it was an issue of hot soil, or bugs, heat, etc), I finally consulted with a few other growers, and we figured out it was the water. Once I switched to distilled water, she quickly turned herself around, and new growth exploded. The pictures below show transplant, which happened about 3-4weeks after the seed popped.

As far as nutrients, early on I used extremely diluted Alaskan fish fertilizer. After transplanting, I withheld nutrients for a week, to allow her to acclimate to her new soil, after which I switched over to the biobizz grow fert, using the biobizz recommended schedule. I continued to follow the biobizz schedule into flower, and still do currently. Fox Farms recommended 4TBSP per gallon of the Big Bloom, so I started with 1 TBSP per gal week 1 of flower, 2 TBSP week 2, etc until week 4, when I began using the full strength recommended by Fox Farms.

11/29/19 transplanting from 1gal pot, to 10 gal pot

12/05/19: Plant was topped between 3rd and 4th node prior to repotting. After she went into her new pot, I began to do some LST to split the 2 main stems apart, in an effort to keep the plant as low as possible through the veg stage.

12/20/19: Flipped to flower and added trellis 5 days prior (12/15/19). The main stem split in the center, where I had topped her. I was adjusting individual branches under the the trellis, and I guess because of the prior LSTing, that center notch had become a weakened stress point. I immediately pulled the 2 halves of the stem back together, and wrapped it in Teflon tape to keep the "wound" covered, and to hold it together. She didn't show any signs of stress whatsoever (thankfully)

12/22/19: 1 week into flower. Took a picture for progress, and added some red dots, just to show all the visible tops easier amongst all the green

12/27/19: Day 12 of Flower. I had left for 4 days for Christmas to go see family. Came back and she had stretched almost all the way into the light!

12/28/19: Day 13 of Flower. Did some SuperCropping to fix the issue of the plant stretching up into the light, without having to raise the light (150w HPS, so I try to keep it no higher than 18in above the plant, to be sure the middle of the plant is receiving max light, as well as the tops). Took some pics of the bends.

1/03/20: 19 days into Flower. Defoliated prior to taking this pic. After taking the pic, I did some rearranging of tops, as well as a couple more super crops, to even out the upper canopy, and keep the tops from growing too close into the light. Again, id rather move the plant, than the light, because it Is only a 150w, so light penetration is sub-par in general, let alone much above 18in.

Interesting, can't get to see ur results.

1/11/20: 26 days into flower

1/13/20: 29 days into flower. I adjusted the HPS up a couple of inches, and then dropped the T5s down, so they shine horizontally into the sides of the canopy. Im hoping this gives the mid/lower bud sites better lighting, while still giving the tops the full extent of the HID lighting.



Close up of bud sights shows some browning of the pistiles on the upper buds. Its pretty isolated to the ones in the upper center of the canopy, so im GUESSING the heat right at the very top of the canopy was a bit high. Hopefully the new light configuration accommodates that.

I'm noticing some leaf tips yellowing/curling down a bit, and a handful of leaf blades sickle-ing left/right.

I've been following the biobizz nute schedule, but I might just give her plain water next time around and see how she reacts.

Appreciate the kind words though!

1/20/20: Day 36 of flower

Last feeding was the first time she had gotten FULL strength nutes (per the biobizz schedule), and I noticed a couple days after, that leaves were burning at the tips, and curling left/right. So I decided to give her pure water (no nutes) until about a gallon of run off.. and next time around I water ill keep nutes at about 3/4 the full recommended dose

1/27/20: Day 43 of flower

The areas that were previously yellow, have begun to brown. I dont think its so much that the plant is getting "worse", but that the areas of the leaves that were nute burned, are simply going from yellow to brown as part of the natural process of dying off.

I dont want the issue to get worse by going right back into full nute schedule, but also dont want to deprive her by giving JUST water.. so ill likely give her a 50% dose of nutes when i water her tonight, and see how she reacts. Im HOPING i see no changes either way, and that the few leaves showing the burn, are the last.

Smell is starting to get pungent. It has a strong "Dank" smell, with hints of fuel/citrus.. getting excited to taste her when shes finished up!

2/12/20: Day 59 of Flower

I watered her yesterday (plain water only from then on out), and did some tying. I LST'ed and Scrogged, so the buds that grew on the thinner side branches had started to fall over and lean from the weight of the nugs, so I had to tie the to the ceiling of the tent, or the net.. whatever I could to keep them upright.

9-10 weeks is the recommended Flower time for this strain (Kosher Kush), so I'm likely looking at harvest on the 23rd of February (11 days from now), pending trich maturity. Pistils are majority orange/brown and receding, and she is definitely nearing full maturity, just want to give her time to swell. Buds feel dense, and almost "crispy" from how encrusted with crystals they are.









You can see here some of the smaller side branching that is falling over/leaning due to thin stems/heavy tops. These are actually much smaller, and the way they are leaning brings them closer to the side lighting, so i left them as they were. The ones ive had to tie up were the thin stemmed side branches that stretched to grow even with the upper canopy, so they grew large dense colas, but dont have the stems to support.

But hopefully, some green plant ties and some artful support, i wont have any broken stems from here until harvest xD

2/18/20: Day 65 of Flower

Im basically coasting to the end here. Just gave her what i believe will be her final watering. I didn't flush, as theres conflicting reports about its efficacy, and with the recent Rx Green Tech report on it being basically useless, i figured id simply cut nutrients (which i did regardless, as a result of slight nute burn about 2-3 weeks back) a few weeks early, and solely give her plain purified water. Let her use up whats available to her, without adding in anything extra

9.5 weeks.. this Sunday is week 10.

And I wouldnt say scrogging directly makes buds bigger... but it does help you open up the canopy, which allows more light into the bud sites, which in turn should equate out to higher yield overall.

I use the netting more to keep my canopy even though. I use LST when the plant is in veg to keep it low and wide, then use the net to move branches around in an effort to keep all the tops at an even height, so they're receiving even light exposure.
