Mother or no Mother?

Ok guys here goes been growing cannabis for about 10 yrs, in my home made cabinet, and i have always kept a mother plant in one side. The other side has always been veg, flower, clone, but recently my buddy who is a med patient told me i could get rid of the mother and just clone right before i start to flower and by the time they are ready for harvest the clones will be ready to go over to that side and veg for awhile then you can take clones again and repeat the process. Which seem like it would work fine in theory ,but i have always been told when doing this each clone is a different generation and the further down the line the worse the grow, worse the potency ,and etc. Is this correct or would it be cool to ditch the mother? :-?

My mothers go in an upstairs window, behind net curtains. I keep them really small.

The problem with the suggested system is that if for any reason there's a problem with the clone, you'll have to hold back on flowering. Two bad clones could loose you an entire crop.

I had this same question. I am using a 4 cab system, with a 12 week flower, 4 week veg calendar. Basically I planned on harvesting a plant every month. the new spot that opened up I would take a clone from the plan that was previously in veg right before I take it to flower. I had heard that cloning from a clone results in decreased potency as well, so I was hesitant. I really don't have room for a mother and this system would work well if it can keep up potency. If anyone could shed some light from experience (not I heard or I was told) I would appreciate the input. +rep for sure. :-)

Thanks :joint:

a clone is a clone (the same as the mother growth, potency, etc) unless they are stressed in some why or grown in differnt cilment

ya you definetly can man, alot of people clone right before they put their plants into flower, the thing about a mother plant is you know the clones will be female no matter what and if you are working from plants you already know the sex you will be just fine

How do you keep your mother small? Im new to this forum thing and couldnt find anything searching, i got 2 fems now possibly 3 on my first grow and would be interested in using a mother because i plan to have more than 3 after this, but i have no clue how i would trim it to keep the mother from overgowing my closet, which i have like 6 feet tall, 3 feet deep, 20 foot long grow area.

Search for bonsai mother (sp?) that is the technique most people use.
Basically you trim it and train it so that it keeps growing but doesn't take up any more space.
Maybe brushing up on your LST skills would help as well. :-)

Cheers. :joint:
