MOTHER plants; please stop growing!!!

I was just wondering what the best way to have my mother plant stop growing vertically. I have a 6 foot plant that is reaching the ceiling and needs to stop. I have heard I can take 2-3 inches of the root off and then fill it with fresh soil. Is this the right way?

I want to inflict little amount of stress as possible. Thanks in advance and I hope the New Year is treating you all well.

you can L.S.T( low stress train) it that's what i do. you tie the top down and she bends over, or you can"top"(cut a inch or so off the top) her and she will start just branching out witch is great for a mother to do.

refresh your mother with a newer shorter mother . when it gets big enough cut the monster down and start over with a fresh mother..or two or three.
you could cut it down and it would still live...just take as many clones off of it as you can cut it down to size..and get a replacement for it..

leave the poor roots alone, stick to topping or lst,u can also clone her right down and let her start basicly over again.

on a side note mother plants should be given a hair cut around once a month weather u need the clones or not, this will keep her short and bushy and healthy.

hope it helps :weed:
