Moving to a different grow area

Hi guys, for the last 9 years i have used a tiny space for 3 plants under a 400 hps.

This space measures 90cm long x 80cm Wide x 2.3M high.

now im moving into a NEW grow area and it measures 2m LONG 2.3m High & 80cm Wide

Using a 400 hps to start with, upgrading to 600 if i need to.

Main reason being obvious, more plants ! plus hopefully less heat build up in the summer time.

Does anyone think a 400 is enough at least to start with ?

A good rule of thumb I use when I am setting up a new spot is a simple foot print. A 1000w has a 4x4 foot print of usable light. 400w and a 600w both have 3x3. I would even go smaller on a 400w.

I am trapped by our far superior standard measuring system here in the US but I am thinking your space is ~3x6 ft. Based on that I would place 2 400w in that space.

You can get by with the one while you beg but if you want to hit nice dense rounds I would add some light

well currently , i can just manage space for 3 pots, im hoping to go 5 , im not planning on using the full 2.3 mtr size, as i want to be able to enter the room, instead of standing in the doorway, ill do one grow, and see how they look, probably will go for 600 anyway for the 2nd grow, but guys thanks for your input, it matters

Totally disregard my posts, LOL I missed the new space dimensions and was working off the old ones. sorry

In your new space I think that 2 x 400's would be great at 46 watts per sqft. 2 x 600 would be a bit much. Honestly a 400 and a 600 would be great wattage per sqft but would be uneven.

well, my light is huge almost as wide as the room itself, ill happily go 600 , but i guess i just have to start with a 400 , i might be lucky, ill add some progress pics of the space as it happens, today it was cleared and painted, i need a few things before my current grow is complete in around 5/7 weeks

Sounds like you are gonna have some fun with the new space. Always nice to get an upgrade. When I first started in a closet back in the late 80s I had a 400 watt HPS to start and after a couple runs I added a 400 watt metal halide next to it. Man it was so much fun, learning to grow and playing with my setup. We didn't have the resources available to us that are out there now with the internet. We had High Times mag with Ed Rosenthal and that was about it lol. TBH back then we spent a LOT less money on grow gear because there basically was none.

well ive ordered a few bits for the new room, will be adding more when funds allow, also im going to reduce the size slightly by adding a blackout curtain so that i can step inside the room and close the door while i attend to my girls, going to try for 5 pots at a time, i cant see me having any issues if im honest , if i do, 600 here i come
