Plant had a bit of a growth spurt last night and grew into the CFLs; suffering a slight leaf burn. Color looks great! I think I may put her into flowering as early as next week. It was nice today so I opened the window so she could get some clean air.

Today's Thoughts

The plant continues it's horizontal growth. To the point where it's now starting to press against the sides of the kitty litter bucket. I'm not really sure what I can do about that.

At this point the plant is 12 days old (from sprout) and a little over 3 inches tall. Not sure when to flower, but I'm gonna take "Where the Hell am I's" suggestion and wait for 5 nodes (it may have 5 nodes right now, I haven't really investigated).

There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in this journal right now so I'll probably scale the posts back to 1 per week moving forward.

Today's Thoughts

The light fixture just isn't designed properly, so I disconnected the wings on the side, brought them down to the shop and moved the lamp holders in closer to the other end. You can see from the first pic that now I can truly surround the plant with light.

I got to get this thing into flowering, it's starting to get unruly! I'm hoping to start flowering either tomorrow or next week depending on when I can get time to figure out how to work the timer and make sure the room is going to be pitch black during that 12 hours of darkness.

Its so much nicer when you read a journal and every few posts you can see exactly where the person is and what they're doing, not to mention if they ask for help, you don't have to read through 80 pages of posts to see what going on there. BTW, I stole the idea from another journal on here, can seem to find it now, but I added a bunch of extra stuff to his details.

Tonight is the night I have been waiting for! The plant is going into its first ever dark period 12/12. She's so bushy and growing so fast, I decided to start flowering her before she gets too big so I can (try to) flower with CFLs (correctly).

I blacked out the window with a black lawn trash bag and tested for total darkness. I also hooked up the timer and plugged everything in.

I switched out the 6500K 20w CFLs for 2700K 26w ones in preparation of tonight's event.

Today's Thoughts

I started flowering a few days ago and on the first night of flowering we lost power for almost 20 hours so the plant ended up with 18 hours of darkness instead of 12. The plant is growing incredibly quickly but is emitting a disgusting rotten trash odor. Gonna see if that goes away in a few days.

The plant keeps growing into the lights in its dark period burning the leaves. I'm going to start raising the lights just prior to going into darkness to try to prevent this.

Ok, so in the last 3 days there has been a lot of vertical growth and I'm having a hard time keeping the CFLs positioned so they're close enough to the plant, but don't burn the leaves. I'm going to have to try an LST or something. I'm a bit concerned about the node spacing; during vegetation the growth was mostly horizontal but now it appears growth is purely vertical and there are several inches between nodes. I'm having doubts that CFLs are adequate for the flowering phase (at least the 6 I have anyways).

The temperature is up, like 80F+ and its going to be difficult keeping the temps down during the dark period when the window is blacked out and the room is sealed off (no fresh air coming in). I'm hoping sex shows soon and I have a female. If not, then I'll toss this grow and start building a cab. My wife wants her theatre room back.

Thanks for that thread. I was already thinking about the ghetto cooler using an ice pack behind the fan. I'm not gonna cut up my closet since this grow is just a CFL experiment for me. I have one seed remaining (lowryder) so my next grow is gonna be done in a custom grow cab with DWC Hydro.

Not a lot of time this week to obsess over the plant but things are ok. No signs of sex yet; just waiting until that happens to decode what to do next. If it's a female then I'll get some 42w CFLs to add to the lights and if not then I'm going to plan for another outdoor grow and start some serous research on DWC/Stealth Cabs for my next indoor grow.

This Week's Thoughts

The plant looks fantastic but it may be a transvestite. I've never grown indoors so I've never obsessed over a plant like this and I'm a little unskilled at determining sex at an early stage but I'm certain that pistillate female pre-flower hairs have appeared between the stipules and branches and the nodes are no longer alternating symmetrically. A few flowering areas look to contain ball like growths without hairs but I presume in a few days as the plant matures further, it will resemble what I used to seeing from an outdoor plant growing under natural conditions.

I still haven't had time to train the plant or LST it so each morning new leaves are fried crispy by growing into the lights. I'm basically holding off on doing anything until I determine this plant's sex.

Yup, you wouldn't think it was possible by reading all the negative posts about it but yea its nothing but Miracle Grow Potting Soil and Miracle Grow Perlite I got at Wal-mart for a few bucks. No nutes. Nothing but miracle grow and distilled water.

Well I went back and looked over some of the botany websites and now I think its a girl. In a few days and I should know for sure. I think I was confusing the pear shaped pistillate that didn't have hairs yet as male preflowers. Time will tell if its a girl or not.
