You can still buy halogen lamps with a medium base, if it's heat you want Halogen is better anyway.
Is it possible to get Halogens that only put out 30 watts of heat and fit in your everyday household light socket? Didn't think so. Halogen lights are TOO hot. People don't use blow torches to light their joints do they? Thats kind of what you suggested.

Yep, and they only cost $5 a piece. The new efficient ones anyway, the old ones you can get new for $.25 and you can still buy them, in fact after the ban you can still have them. 10 years down the road it may be difficult to find them.

Yeah I kinda laugh at all the Beck folks that are stock piling those old bulbs. They are going to spend more money using them over the new ones. They make absolutely no fucking sense. It's why I laugh at them.

They are still making a bunch of bulbs - like Neodymium lamps - that are incandescent and are exempted from the law under "specialty lamps".... They were invented for SAD, I like the light a lot more it's less yellow and a little more natural feeling without losing the warmness most people like from incandescents.

edit: Verilux is expensive though, I wouldn't recomend them; just dont buy the GE ones they're crap.

TBH I only have 2 incandescent bulbs in my home, 1 never gets turned on and is in a hard to reach spot, the other one is a green light for the tomato room. I have used CFl's for approx 6 years now. They do save energy and you can get ones that put out pretty warm light like Incand do. But the point is that Government should not be removing choices, I like choices.

What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage? I mean, this is just a freaking light bulb. What about the Government restricting your choice on who to Marry? Makes the Light Bulb debate seem a bit trivial don't you think?

Why is the Federal Government even involved with Gay marriage? Its none of their friggin business.

If I owned a incandescent bulb factory I would be much more concerned with the Light Bulb thing than Gay Marriage.

I must have missed something, are incandescents banned or about to be? Brewer, were those Jeff Beck folks or Glen Beck folks?

Either or I guess. They are both entertainers.

They changed the minimum energy standards for the bulbs. At the time it made all existing incandescent bulbs obsolete as they did not meet the energy standards. The industry innovated and created an incandescent light bulb that does meet the new standards. It is a rare case of government regulation actually spurring innovation. 70 watt bulbs give off as much light as the old 100w bulbs and they last 3 times longer. They cost more but pay for themselves over the life of the bulb.

Pretty sweet huh?

Wonder what it would do for growers if they did a similar thing with HID lights. We could all be using more efficient and brighter lights.

Thanks, I had not heard about that. Down here, there is ONLY CFL because the electric rates are so high already.
