Multiple Toppings - how far down to make cuts

so I’m topping my plants for the 2nd time (topped them first time 12 days ago). Anyway I’m going to top them at least once more, so I was going to cut the 2 x new auxiliary buds to create 4.

Anyway I’m curous what some of you experienced growers who top your plants multiple times would say as far as where you’d recommend cutting it - directly under the very newest growth or down farther so you’re cutting off the new growth and the set of leaves below it (see pic)??

I know that the higher up you cut the less stress it gives the plant, but not sure if it’s better to cut lower for thicker stem.

And you can top a lot more times including side shoots you will clone. Then it's already topped before it's even rooted.

What is your objective, bushy plant with many colas or just a few?
I just pinch off the new top growths. Wait till new branches form. Then do the same to each new growth. etc.
I like them short and bush with many tops.:peace:

@Ringsixty so I'm really trying to maximize yield per plant so short and bushy is what I want (the more colas the better). So you recommend just taking off the little piece of top growth only? you're topping it clean (not FIM'ing) I'm assuming? How many times do you do it? Right now will be my second round of topping (so 4 x main colas) - I'm debating whether I should top again in 7-10 days or so and make it 8 tops per plant.

As far as setup I only have one 600w Mars Hydro LED and this grow is 4 x Sativas (Blue Dream and Amnesia Haze in soil) so keeping them short and confined to the light's coverage area in my tent is a must as well.

I do FIM sometimes. But, really prefer just to top. Longer you veg and top. The busher she will be.
Dont forget to LST them.
