My 5 gal Super soil recipe

After some absolutely incredible results with this soil mix, iv'e decided to share it with all you RIU folks!

2 parts peat
1 part coco (very well rinsed!)
1 part perlite
4 tbsp bonemeal
3 tbsp bloodmeal
6 tbsp kelp meal
4 tbsp dolomite lime
20 tbsp rare earth (optional but highly recommended)

wearing breathing protection, mix all ingredients together. Wet mix using 3 litres added slowly while you mix. I enrich the water with humic acid but it's optional of course.
Once well mixed, store in a container with a lid and stir every 3 days or so. Let is "bake" for a good 2 weeks and your good to go!

Benifits of this mix are:

Most ingredients are common
Very inexpensive except for rare earth
extremely good water/oxygen ratio
Super easy to make

*if rare earth and/or humic acid is used, this will greatly decrease the amount of fertilizer that the plant requires

I have yet to add any extra nutes to the plants that I have potted into this mix. Growth has explosive,lush and dark green. Only 10 days after re-potting from party cups into 2 gallons, they are ready to re-pot again into 5 gallon pots. I'll be posting pics as I go so you all can see how well it works:

Here's the roots coming out all the holes...remember this is only 10 days after transplanting! The root growth has been astounding me.

Hey man....I see you say blue berry.....you know any idea what seed company you got that from? my buddies got a Dutch Passion blueberry going now that is in 3 week flower and its GIANT!


Oh yeah, thanks for the soil mix...I've been searching all over for a good 5 gallon mix. thanks!!!

No prob! I did alot of searching as well and wanted a mix that's relatively inexpensive, easy to make and works well on it's own. Adding humic's is a HUGE money saver for those that don't want to be spending so much on nutes. The requirements of the plants that iv'e fed humic acid to have been cut in half!

The Blueberry strain is from Dutch passion. It's a little touchy to get going, i'd stay VERY light on the nutes until she's at least 3 inches tall with a few sets of leaves. Once she's established all I can say is "wow!" very vigorous beautiful strain!

Noice man, how many buckets did this recipe fill? It all looks like shit I know where to buy cheaply, but Im guessing the recipe changes depending on how many buckets your filling.

technically the recipe shouldnt change, just the quantity... im not trying to be an ass i do have a question. is there an igrediant that should only be used in a certain amnt regarless of the batch size?

I use almost the same recipe, i add greensand in addition, with roots as a base. Kinda spin on Subcools soil, with a few things added

what type of soil do i use ? and would i be able to get most of these ingridients at local stores. Lowes etc, it would be more helpful on a more specific way to mix it thanks

as per the thread title,This is for a 5 gallon bucket. If you need different amounts just multiply or divide accordingly.

No, this recipe is for a 5 gallon bucket. If you need a different size all ingredients would have to be adjusted accordingly.

This is technically an enriched soiless mix. There isn't anything else you need other than what's listed. Most of the ingredients can be found at local stores except for the optional ones (humic acid and rare earth). They can both be ordered from grow shops.

Mixing instructions are posted with the recipe...

May I ask, what is the benefit of not using soil?

I was looking for a good soil mix and saw this.

Can you do a mix like this with soil added?

Could I run this in a hydro system? I know you are not supposed
to use soil with hyrdo as it will turn into a mud bath and clog the pumps.
