My doc says things aren't going to happen....

Baby steps, people. Baby steps!
The new MMPR is the evolution of new MJ laws in Canada. Nobody, not lawyers or politicians, really know where this is heading over the next 3-5 years. Will it lead to open legalization? Maybe. Maybe not.
Prices will equalize as more producers come online. The market will crash, then recover, as any other market has done and will do so again in the future. Smaller LPs might not survive the crash, depending on their design and profit-to-debt ratio. I know that my numbers show I could survive prices dropping as low as $1.27 a gram. At $1.26 I would be operating at a loss.

Cheers

AB Bud Soon, your right of course, but I was getting tired of the old (spilt milk) arguments, thought I would switch hit to get other patients thinking about what they could be doing to help themselves within the MMPR.

Hey, you think the market will crash again? I thought that the MMAR in the last years was "like" legalization enough in combo with washington/colorado, that that might have been enough. Supply demand crash. What kind of crash do you see coming?

I'm confused, the last time I read up on the new regulations and crime bill, set to pass along with it, is nobody will be able to grow their own meds without legal problems. I'm sure I read it right, as those new super prisons that were built, need to be filled up. Please correct me if I am wrong. Peace!!

100% correct. Business 101 - all new markets create a rush to get 1st mover advantage, too many enter the market driving product prices down, only the strong (rich in cash flow) producers survive, the market recovers mostly... Anyway, if you can survive 1.27/gr then looks like you have your ducks in a row, and a sizeable operation.... operating in Alberta?? Where are you in the application process? Plans to produce soon?

Ya. In the calgary area. Our problem is the lack of understanding from local government as to what the mmpr is about. Their first comment is "we are concerned about crime from these operations." When I ask them if they are concerned about crime when Shoppers Drugs wants to open a new store, they have no answer. When I ask them if they are concerned about crime if Pfizer was to open a production facility, they have no answer.
As for size of our operation plans, like most LPs applying, we are scalable to meet the space we can acquire. Current goal is to occupy an 15,000 sqft facility. So I'm not sure if that means we will be "big" or "average size.
As for surviving a price crash, yeah, it is something every LP wannabe needs to really worry about. It is destiny that some large producer will have 10x my operation size, and will sell their product for a lot less than everyone else. They will draw many patients away from their current LP because they plan to operate at <$3.00/gram. This will force all other LPs to either whither on the vine, or drop prices to keep their patients. As stated, business 101. Look at the iPad/tablet market. Apple made a killing before other tablets hit the market, now they struggle to keep market share...and they have VERY deep pockets.

Cheers

As I was sitting at my doc appt yesterday, she says to me she received something from HC. She thought it was going to be a pkg concerning how to move foreward in the new system. Turns out to be application forms from.....Cannimed. She called it advertising, but they labelled it as in information sheet. I guess Cannimed wants peeps to sign up for a year. I can tell you that ain't gonna happen here. She said she doesn't know what forms she's supposed to sign. Anyway,I thought it was interesting that health Canada sent it to my doc.

Seems strange HC would send out Cannimed documents....I though HC was "getting out of the biz" ?

Has anyone else heard of a doctor getting a HC Cannimed package? I wonder if it showed pictures of the woodchipper machine they use to grind up the whole plant with?

If this is correct information the shit is going to hit the fan!

I tried to explain to her what I've learned here regarding advertising and she was quite clear that this is exactly what ALL BiG PHARMA's DO!!! It's all in the way Cannimed has written their cover letter. So basically, an LP can send an "information package" to every doc in the country telling them about the services they will offer their patients.

I am very concerned about this year long contract. Does this seem even remotely reasonable? How am I supposed to know how I'm going to feel a year from now. I didn't have to sign a contract to shove morphine into my body for years on end so what gives? It seems to me that people are looking for some kind of income security. I still maintain that it won't be sick people buying at $5-$12
/g.

If you don't like who you sign up with, you just get your doctor to write a new prescription and you can move to a new LP

I still don't understand how Cannimed can send out something with a HC label? That doesn't sound like an info package, it sounds like misrepresentation...HC should have nothing to do with Cannimed Letters to Doctors it seems

Agreed, the key here is that HC sent it. If PP or Cannimed sent it there would be no story.

If you can get your doc to sign in the first place. Most Doctors don't want anything to do with this program. Mine for instance doesn't know where she is supposed to go to get the appropriate forms for anything. They do not want to be the gatekeepers for the program. This will all be for not when patients aren't lining up at the door to buy something they've been growing themselves for years. I'm sorry but the more I read and hear and see the more convinced I am that this program is not geared toward the sick. It almost seems like this is a rouse for something bigger to come.

You got that right its deff not for the sick. I can afford it and still will not sign on with an lp's.

The MMPR was not designed for the sick. Health Canada has said if patients can't afford the new prices they should go to their doctor and get an alternative. (don't shoot the messenger)
The MMPR is designed to move the sales of mj from the black market to a regulated and taxed industry.
First is "medicinal", to be followed by recreational.
You might not like it. You might want to boycott the new system. You might want to keep growing. It's up to you.
Repeated claims of "I'm not going to buy from these new LPs" are tiresome.
Conversation regarding the future, and perhaps how patients can get to the place in time that would see them being allowed to grow 5-6 plants each would be more entertaining and perhaps enlightening.

Don't shoot those that are continuing the hard work of spreading marihuana in any legal way. We are the ones stretching the envelop for your benefit.

Gee HEALTH Canada...MARIHUANA for MEDICAL purposes..don't know where I got the idea this program was supposed to be for medical patients. This is a step backwards from the former program. How is this advancing anything? I'm trying to be optimistic, but for now I will wait and see,

What kind of conversation do you think we would be having if Cannabis Phytotherapy was covered by insurance companies or in the drug compendium? I said in another post, this is not my first drug of choice. This was what was left for me. Harper telling me to find another choice doesn't help me in the short or long term. I am the kind of people the original program was geared to.
