My edibles can be a little sleepy. Why?

I’ve been enjoying making edibles with both sugar leaf/larf trimmings and kief. Been decarbing at @230 for 25-30 minutes, then processing into oil using a mason jar in near boiling water for 90 minutes or so, then using the oil or butter in brownies. Some have been great, but some have been a little sleepy. When that’s the case, do you think I’m overcooking the active ingredients by the time they bake into the brownies? Last time used around 14grams of material in one cup of oil. Brownies were potent. Maybe just eating to much and making me sleepy? Any suggestions appreciated

How many brownies do you make with the 14g and how many brownies do you eat in a sitting? I usually make capsules with concentrate and one capsule will be the equivalent of 1g flower and I too sometimes get set down by the potency.

I made like 40 brownies initially, sort of 1” 3”, but those were too potent. Found a 1”x1” or so was a pretty good dose. Maybe just eating too much at times?

I like them to help me sleep also. Though during the day I like them to extend and enhance my buzz. I actually stopped at a dispo today and bought some
5mg gummies to get a better sense of the measured dose. Took 10mg, and the effect is probably close to the 1”x1” piece. But I also have a fresh batch of sugar leafs and larf and I’m ready to cook.

I guess my concern is that I’m overcooking by making the oil then making the brownie.

Early harvest can make sleepy weed
I definitely could suffer from this at times. Though in this case the trimmings were from a plant I let go pretty long. It was very stony weed, which might be part of the issue too.

But that leads to another question I’ve been having. I pulled out a plant that had sprung male parts and harvested to protect the other plants in the tent. Probably 2-3 weeks early, though the buds are decent enough looking. Not too potent when smoked. I wondered if I might get better effect cooking it. Would love your advice @Herb & Suds
