My Experiment Grow

Well, my second grow is under way and I am getting a bit more adventurous. I am growing in a 18" X 24" X 25" tall area. I am doing a ScroG grow. I am breaking all the rules that I've found to ScroG growing.

We shall see. Will I emerge triumphant, or go down in a blaze of glory? (or would that be still be a triumph, oh nevermind).

Rules to ScroG:
1) Place screen at least 8 - 10 inches off the soil.
- My screen will be about 2 -3 inches off soil.
2) Veg for at least 6 weeks.
- I put them on 12/12 at about 2 weeks, when they were still seedlings. They will start flowering as soon as they are mature enough.
3) Do ScroG grows from clones.
- I am growing from 2 seeds out of some bagweed I had saved up.
4) Never have more than one plant in a single growing medium (this is for growing in general).
- Both plants at opposite ends of same container, sharing same dirt.
5) Only start 12/12 light cycle when plant shows it's maturity with pre-flowers, and/or when 1/2 - 2/3 of screen is full.
- *See rule #2

Well, that's all the rules I could remember for now, I am sure that there are many more which I will be reminded of.

I am also trying an active vermicomposting idea I have been working on, as well as testing out the 12/12 from seedling method which I read a little about. For more information on these two experiments see my other thread:
https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/29128-scrog-vermicompost-help.html
And, if I get a male I will be doing another experiment, which I talk about here:
https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/29327-but-possible.html

Anyway, I do realize the possibility that I am just screwing my grow up, but that is what the hands on experience is all about so one way or the other, it will be very interesting (to me at least, if to no one else).

If you do have comments for the 2 other threads I linked to, could you please post them here? It will be so much easier for me.

Happy tokes and chronic smokes!

It can work mostly as you describe, my concerns follow.

I did (and a buddy of mine still does) grow with a nearly exact (really small SCROG) setup as you describe. I used 2 long rubbermaid storage containers that made max use of the area and planted 1 clone at each end. The containers each had their own screen and were alternated each month - sort of a perpetual harvest.

Concerns: Working from seed is dangerous with SCROG. If you get a male, it becomes very difficult to extract it from the screen, especially when you have multiple plants on the same screen. You'll need to see if 2 weeks of veg is enough to fill the screen enough to get a decent yield. You might want to be a bit flexible on this point.

Well I am new and just read your post - how did it work out and what would you change. I would like to attempt this and can barely get a tomato seed sprouted.

i read your thing on vermicompost and was wondering how you keep it up. do the worms keep reproducing, or do you have to restock your bin? i was thinking of buying a vermicompost kit myself.

You`ll definately grow a decent plant. You should look at getting more soil and pots, then takes clones to make sure their females. When you can tell, throw them all under the cage, and let them flower.

I have seen some grows that broke all the rules, and still produced high yielding, potent medicine, and I have also heard of many trailblazers that totally screwed the pooch, hahah.. First, it is ok to ScrOG from seeds. But, you need to make sure that the plants have a strong, healthy root system. From what I have seen, it takes a while to ensure proper root development, so the plant can absorb all the nutrients needed to produce good flowers. That being said, I have also seen people that go 12/12 from the start, and have produced some good nugs, but typically, they are "popcorn". I believe the proper way to ScrOG is to be patient, train the plants when vegging to ensure more branching, which in turn will produce more bud sites to fill up your screen and produce a higher yield,,, IMHO. Happy Scrogging
