so what is your opinion? I have a 1000W HPS with a inline fan running 340 cfm sucking the hot air out of it. Is it best to have the light as close to the top of the plant as possible? I have the thermometer wire on the very highest top on the plant as long as I can keep it 75-76f I feel I'm ok. the temp is at 73.9.View attachment 2031245View attachment 2031246

As long as they aren't seedlings yes. As close as you can while staying at temps. There is such thing as too much light but I don't think 1 1000W can do that. I could be wrong though. You'll notice the plant getting too much light when the top of the plant looses color and starts turning white. If this happens move you light a bit further away and it will resume growth and regain pigment.

If they are really young or unrooted clones it may be possible to give too much. But if they are even a foot tall or a little less then as long as you can hold your hand there for 30-60sec then your fine

Even if it is cool, having the light too close can Burn your plants, not with heat, with lumens. Will leave a white bleached area if left too close to the light.

Those plants are pretty small. It may fry them. But yeah once they are big, get that light as close as possible without burning the tips.

Its means that at around 20 inches way its has as much photo rad as a tropical sun. So you don't need to keep them that close but you could as long as your not seeing any negative effect like the plant losing pigment and turning white.

if you look at the pic the tall plant is about a foot tall and the small ones all have made a full leaf and were just taken from under the t5

That chart is for without a cooltube. If the temps at the top in the direct light is only 75 then no worries make it 6".

Here is what light burn looks like, from my own garden 8" from the vented hood.
I think youll find that was heat/moisture stress bro ,the buds are very runny and sparse, what were the temps must have been fucken warm. Also the cooltube is much cooler than a vented hood.

i agree it might cook em, but if the temps are ok then the temps ae ok, i run my 1000 pretty close, but im always paranoid about burning them

i move it a lil bit further than 6" for sure man., more like 12-18 inches at least for now.. just to let them get bigger for a bit, then i would keep it on top if possible

I had my cooltube too close to one of my main buds. It started to look as though it was defficient in something. But later I realised that half of the bud had been bleached pure white.
no other harm but this cant be good. So I cut them off because im pretty sure when its bleached it wont continue to grow.

I was always under the impression that if it wasnt too hot then it could even be up against the glass. But even if its cool enough they still get blasted by lumins.

without a mover on that light i would keep it back 18"-24" for 1000 watts 12"-18" for a 600w and 8"-12" for a 400w your plants will thank you for it.
