Oh hello there Weed demon as you can tell I just manage to drag this sprout to the surface I dont have a clue of what to do at the next stage despite reading hundreds of threads & 2 books he he he.

They are too small for any nutes right now. Just start with 500 PPM dose when they develop a bit more. Three or four sets of leaves is a good starting point.

Yeah give nutes after 4th week, by that time they usually have 4 or 5 sets
of leaves and they can handle the nutes.

*Day 3*
stardate 39838560...thats a silly star trek joke...Im not a nerd.

Four teeny tiny leaves on a long stem, seems to be stretching for light maybe Ill place a platform under the propagator to raise it closer to the fluros. My moisture meter has been reading the soil as damp so Ive not watered yet, but the other pot is still damp maybe thats why it hasnt sprouted yet. Actually I did dig it up & it has begun to form a long tap root so atleast its making some progress... I touched the seed I think I killed it Oh my Gyad!

Like day 2 so far so good Ill report back tomorrow over and out.

Dont panic!!! As long as you didn't rip the taproot off Im sure it will be fine. You really should leave it alone tho as Im sure you know if you keep exposing it to light it wont want to do its job.

Its good to hear that you have 2 started after so many problems.

How far from the plant are the flouros? The next day or 2 i would lower it, as close as you can without burning. " Or raise the plant to the light."

Thanks Trickky Im thinking itll pop out when its ready theirs no way I can rush it. My understanding was that if 2 seeds are planted at the same time in the exact same medium and are in the same environment they will pop out together but know I know thats not the case.

Thats what Im planning to do, but would it be wise to remove the propagator hood permanently when I raise the plant closer? At the moment its 6 inches away.

As hard as it is sometimes, leaving them do their thing is exactly what you have to do.
And your right no matter how similar the environment they are in two seeds will not behave in exactly the same way.

Anyway if you noticed that the taproot was getting longer I would say that it should be breaking the surface within a day.

Personally when the shoot is above ground and I see the first pair of true leaves I remove the lid and it stays off for good.

A good acid test for how close to have any light is to put your hand next to you plant, with the back of your hand facing the light, then, lower the light until you feel a comfortable warmth on your hand. When your hand feels warm the light is in a perfect position, if your hand feels hot its too close.

Just bear in mind your medium will dry out at a quicker rate once it is removed from the propagator, so you will have to check it more often. If your anything like me then this is not a problem, I spend more time with plants than I do with humans

Day 3.

As you can see in the below pics Ive raised the propagator so now the roof of the hood an inch away from the fluros, Im going to leave the hood on for a day or two just to see what effect it has then Ill most likely remove it for good.

The surface of the soil has a few dry spots but the moisture reader says it is in between damp & moist, what do you think should I spray water over the soil & sprout despite what the meter reads? Would it be necessary to ph the water at this point?

Ive temporarily covered that pot (seed) with a small drip tray to restrict light from entering it & to increase humidity.

Ill give that a try in a couple of days.
I can touch the fluros without getting burnt, so would it be ok to raise it until its almost touching?
Ive always got the plant(s) on my mind so Ill never forget to check it.

I hate that my sprout is stretching I hope it doesnt affect it in the later growth.

Your seedling isn't that stretched at all in my opinion. I wouldn't worry about its future it looks fine to me.

I don't use moisture meters I just pick the pot up and if its light I water, thats something you will get the hang of with experience.

As for ph, at this stage I wouldn't add something as aggressive as ph up or down to such a small seedling. Besides its in soil which I imagine is ph balanced at 7, plus the soil will act as a buffer should your water be slightly off the desired ph.

What ph is your water anyway???

P.s. Im starting to fall in love with that grow cabinet, I wonder if Father Christmas will bring me one!

Im using a sony cybershot camera nothing fancy.

Yes Ive removed the hood but the humidity is slowly descending (at the moment its at 35%) Ill try spraying water in the around the pot in the propagator.

My soil has absolutly no N-P-K values & I checked the packaging for PH but it doesnt state so Im assuming no PH .

My tap water measures at 7.8 but after leaving it to sit for the chlorine to evaporate the PH increases to 8.6 , is that normal?

To be honest it would have been sensible of me to purchase a tent & the rest of the equipment seperatly because its not flexible in terms of adding & removing the equipment. But the reason why I purchased it is because everything was pre wired, I didnt want to look too much in to the electrical side as I was very uncertain on which lights/fan/co2 filter etc would meet my needs, but now Im sure I can build the cabinet for a 1/4 of the price Tee hee hee. Im glad you like it though.

Although they are not listed on the packaging BnQ sowing soil contains a small amount of nutrients and trace elements etc, enough to keep your seedlings going for about 3 weeks anyway.

Im pretty sure the soil you are using is ph 7 so by adding water that is ph 8.6 the soil ph will gradually increase with each watering, personally I would still not adjust the water with ph down just yet, maybe in a week or so but thats just my preference, others may advise you otherwise.

As for your humidity levels I find that as long as my air temp is 70f and my soil temp is 65 - 70f then I can get away with as low as 30% humidity, in fact I find that my seedlings actually grow at a faster rate than if I were to keep them in a propagator. Again tho this is my preference others may tell you different. I don't really worry about humidity levels until my seedlings are under a hps.

Yes if you can hold your hand on those lights for a while. Try and get her within 1.5" away. leave it for a day or to and see how she likes it. if all is good move it closer. Closer the better, that is what is so great about flouros!
Something i like to do once the 1st or 2nd set of spiked leaves have grown, is add some soil to the pot, as much as i can. In my opinion its that much better,more rooting area, more stability,more to buff the water.

Uh oh I have a problem...
The stem well the entire sprout is bending at 60 degree angle, Im afraid of tying it to a stick because the stem is very thin & delicate it will most certainly break but I gotta make sure it stays straight what should I do.
