Hi, I am doing a small grow in a box that is 90cm tall, 250cm long, and 45cm wide. The walls are covered with those reflective emergency blankets and I have 10 light sockets I can maneuver flexibly around the box independently of each other.
My seeds are random/mixed genetics I bought off some NORML member. I'm hoping to end up with min 3 max 4 female plants to grow right through. I'm thinking of veging 7 plants to start with and then getting rid of the males. A bit risky because it doesn't allow for plant death and larger ratio of males if I want that many females.
So my question is: is it possible (and doesn't change the end result) to vege heaps of plants then sex them under a relatively small amount of lumen? Basically, the cost of CFL bulbs really adds up (for poor people like me) and I'd prefer to spend that money on high-watt 2700s when the plants start producing buds. So I'm thinking a max 240 watt (10 x 24 watt 6500k CFLs) and then max 220 watt of 2700k CFLs until the plants sex themselves. Then as many watts as I can afford on the final 3-4 females.
Is that going to work? Would 240 watts vege 7 or 8 plants and then get them to show their sex? Without making them unhealthy plants that won't bud right? I'm pretty much asking if the plants will recover from not getting much light throughout their (short, since it's a CFL grow) vege period? Please note the size of my box and that my bulbs are to remain only inches from the plants at all times, surrounding them from all angles. I'm also going to LST them.
Thanks for any comments. My seeds are soaking in water overnight and this is my first proper indoor grow. Exciting times.
