My first grow, dual 400w (HPS/MH) +150w HPS, bagseed, under stairs.

My first grow setup. No clue what I am doing yet so just growing some mystery bagseeds. I have about 10 good seeds that I got from some locally grown medicinal weed that I hope to germinate once I get more room in my veg area. After that I know of a couple local growers where I can get clones from.

Spent ~$1.2k+ at the grow store so far, and about $300+ at the hardware (50% parts, 50% tools I needed)

Flower Room:

• 34" x 40" x 6'
• 6" Lumenaire Reflector
• 400w Hortilux HPS Lamp
• 9" Hi-Velocity Fan
• 4" Fresh Air Intake
• Plan to upgrade to 600w HPS Ballast/Lamp in 3 - 4 weeks

Veg Room:

• 40" x 48"+ x ~24" tall (under stairs)
• 6" Lumenaire Reflector
• 400w MH Lamp
• 150w Min-Sun HPS Ballast/Lamp (to help cover larger area)
• 4" Fresh Air Intake
• 2 x 400w Switchable Ballasts (upgrading one to 600w HPS soon)
• 6" Exhaust Fan 435 CFM (WYE to each hood)
• 9" Hi-Velocity Fan
• Surge Strips, Timers, etc

The 2 plants in the flower room were sprouted outside, in dirt, sometime in early to mid August, IIRC. I bought my first light in early September and soon tried some more mystery seeds in Pro-Mix. I started using the taller room with a single 400w MH and no exhaust.


I got the majority of the exhaust run on the 12th.




I finished the flower room about 3 days ago and they got a day of 15/9. I topped them both approximately a week before I moved them into the flower room, maybe less.




The next day (14th) I transplanted the other small ones to 7qt buckets. The ones in the veg room are 3 - 4 weeks old and mystery seeds as well. A couple started growing really tall with long spacing in between nodes and appeared to sativas. I topped them too soon, after their set of 3 fan leaves, instead of waiting for the 5 fan leafs to show.

I transplanted then from their squares to the 7 quart buckets a few days ago.

Here they are yesterday after their first 12 hour night.




The square with 2 small ones are actually good seeds that I drowned while trying to sprout in dirt. I think they are from good strains, but they have been thru a lot. One of them, after finally struggling for survival, had the seed stuck to it and I waited too long to remove it.

Here they are this morning. The other one is looking pretty good though, thankfully.





Some of the others in my veg room aren't looking so great, and some I topped too early, but it's all schwag seed so I am not worried too much. I am hoping some of them recover from the transplant once they start getting nutes again. Once they do I will move the best looking ones to the flower room, probably in 3 - 4 weeks, and upgrade it to 600w HPS. Once I make more room in the veg room I will probably turn off the 150w HPS, move the 400w MH over a bit, and try to grow those good seeds I have.



This one is leaning a bit funny but seems to be coming back from the tranplant so I am going to wait a bit, top it, and maybe LST it as it s already leaning.

The rest all look sorta meh.


Here is the flower room this morning after 2 nites of 12/12, and having their morning water. These ones are in 10qt buckets.

This one got a FIM by accident and I ended up with 3 tops.




This one did not get a FIM.





Here are a couple more pics from the flower room this afternoon. They are both only about 10" above the dirt right now but I had taken a pretty good piece off the top of them. I was just in a hurry to get the schwag in the flower room so I can try and grow some better seeds or get some clones.





And a couple hours ago I moved most of the veg room plants into the flower room for a little bit. I had to add in one new surge strip and rearrange a few plugs to add in the 2 newest timers for the extended exhaust/circulation fan times. The electrical/timer work is a tad bit ghetto, but it is all 3 prong surge strips, etc.

3 full days of 12/12 now after the 15/9 transition day. Is it too soon to be hopeful?

I lost interest in updating this and didnt have much time. I now have a bit more time on my hands, am in the process of harvesting the first females, and trying to start a perpetual garden.

By this point one of the first 2 plants had shown to be a male. I had seen some 12/12 from seed threads and decided to just start flowering my other bagseed so I could try to get some better genetics going. I moved 4 more into flower on the 18th and the other 2 on the 21st, for a total of 7 (runts) in flower.

Replaced my 400w Switchable ballast for flower with a 600w HPS and Hortilux Super HPS.

The one sativa dominant plant that had been topped above the first node was getting much taller than the rest of my canopy...




..... so I decided on some HST (hi-stress training).

Here it is the next morning...




This later proves to be too stressful and the stalks start splitting so I remove the metal wire. I try string for a while after that, but eventually just let it loose.

A week later and there are 2 more would-be males in the flower room today. They are in the center and bottom right of this pic.

Here we are after culling 1 male, but still one male-to-be in there.

Anna, the oldest one in the 5 gal pail has been thru hell as my first grow, and decided to turn purple as well.

Added some more circulation. I wanted to get some clip on fans and install a couple of shower rods vertically, but the hydro store was all out of clip on fans.

My first harvest. I had already sampled one bottom bud and one main cola (the one with the most receded hairs). I dont have scales yet so not sure on yield, but I would guess 15 - 20 grams.




The buds are actually quite dense now, after being dryed and cured for a weekish. The room where I dried it was about 60f/20rh so they got crispy quick and required a lot of extended burping the first few days. I think I need a humidifier to help slow the drying process or I might try using paperbags after a few days of hang drying, as an intermediate step before going to glass jars.

I have been waiting on some seeds from attitude so started more bagseed sprouts. I finally got confirmation the seeds were almost here, and I went to pick up 10 Chronic Haze clones from another RIU member.

This was the garden on 12/16, notice all the schwag in the veg room. Later today I end up culling 6 of those babies in the veg room to make room for the 10 CrH clones I will be getting.





Here it is on 12/17 in the morning, in anticipation of the clones.




Here are the new babies, after moving in. I put 3 right in to 2ga smart pots today, and the rest into 5x5 pots for now.

The other 2 plants in the 7qt pots (and seedlings in the heated tray) are non-fem Afghans from a recent good bag of home grown. I am not sure what to do with them now that I have all these clones. I think I will need to just rip them out so I can deal with females only (finally) and stay legit.

I moved the 2 non-fem afghans to the flower room yesterday, much sooner/smaller than I had wanted to, to make more room for the clones in veg. I am so sick of vegging males, I just want to be on my way to clones or fem's only. Today I transplanted 2 more of the clones to 2ga pots and put the remaining 4 clones in small pots on the heated tray with my 4 other non-fem afghan seedlings.




I gave the other 3 girls a long overdue flushing, but only grabbed pics of 2 of the 3 girls it seems.

Here we are this morning after I top-dressed the seedlings and clones in 5x5 pots. I think I am going to put the 4 Afghan seedlings and one of these clones into party cups for the new party cup grow contest thread. I wasnt sure what to do with these seedlings and that will help speed up identifying the female Afghans as well as get one of the CrH clones into flower asap.

I will probably just start using photobucket now that I am caught up, so I can post full size pics easily.

I gave all the Chronic Haze clones their first dose of nutes today. 50% the week 1 ratios. The ones in the smaller pots, that have been on the heating pad, seem to be showing the most new growth. I decided to put a couple of the 2ga smart pots on the heating pad instead, along with the party cup transplants.

I had been thinking how nice a heated floor would be, but it isn't very practical. Perhaps I can build some type of raised sub-floor to help insulate the smart pots from the concrete floor.

The first transplant down from the 5x5 to party cups was a bit more destructive to the roots than I had hoped. The other 3 transplants went a bit better, but I didnt get one of the babies as deep as I had hoped. I briefly considered putting them right into the flower box today, but decided I will give them 6 or 7 days of veg to get over the transplant shock. I will try to keep them on the heating pad for now to help the roots.

I watered them in with plain water until I got runoff, and then gave them a small dose of the 50% veg nutes the CrH had been given.

I am fairly sure the packaging for my party cups said 16oz, but apparently they are 18oz, so I guess I am cheating for the PCC.

I got a DIY cloner bucket, but I havent had any definite females to try cloning yet. I am still not sure how easy it will be to clone, veg, flower, and keep my plant number below the allotted 12. I am tempted to just buy more clones when my veg box gets low and/or use some of these fem seeds I bought.

Well, I let the journal sit for about 2 months as I was too busy to update often. Plus, who cares about some newb bagseed grow.!!

I am pretty stoked now to try and start a perpetual system with a good strain. I got $70 worth of attitude seeds in the mail last week but I dont have room to germ or veg because of all these clones.

Oh, and just moved another girl into the dark room, so I can chop and hang her tomorrow.

Nice dude well ill watch this bag seed play out and those attitude seeds, i just bought some myself but i ususally use clones.

I stay away from bag seed just do to a hermi from my last grow, but thats me so any ideas on the strain of thsi bag seed ur choppin.

Nope, no clue. I used to keep seeds from decent mids and any good quality bags. Out of the first 8 I sprouted I got 5 females that are all completely different pheno's. I had a few other good indica seeds but got 100% males out of the 3 or 4 seeds I tried.

The 4 I moved to the party cups are Afghans that a friend bought and grew a seed crop with. I just put them into flower today and once they show sex I am just going to move the females to #1 smart pots since my 18oz containers dont count for the PCC.

I think I am going to germ one of my freebie kannabia seeds for the PCC and find a good 16oz container instead of those 18oz ones I got.
