My First Grow

Good Evening!

This is my first attempt ever at growing. I understand that my system for a lack of better words is horrible, but it seems to be working somewhat:

Background:

College student in a new state where attaining marijuana is easy. I also do not have the money to really buy it. I deciding growing was my only option. I live in an apartment complex, and maintenance checks monthly on things (sometimes going into the individual rooms). I must maintain secrecy for my actions.

Setup:

Very cheap setup, I bought a huge clear tub that is 2 feet high 3 feet long, 1 feet wide. I also bought those "seed starting kits" (with the little dirt that expands when water is added). Bought a very basic flourescent light, and picked up a stronger bulb (best I could find was 710 lumens). I have 5 germinating seeds. The rest of my seeds are Jalapenos and Basil (to hide what im doing basicly). I have a timer that keeps the light on for 18 hours, off for 6 hours. It seems to be growing decently so far but I fear it will start to suck soon.

I plan on doing an LSD grow in hopes of a shorter plant, more yield. I come to you in asking

1. Smallest Light I can get away with 1 plant (im hoping of my 5 seeds, 1 will be female).

2. Does Ona Block really work.

3. How much air movement do I need.

4. When do plants begin to smell.

This setup is only for personal use growth, not huge yield needed.

you will definitly need to transplant them into biggers pots very soon, for your situation i would go with Compact Floro's. a few 42 watters can do 1 female plant pretty decently, and they are a cheaper solution with low heat. smell depwends on strain, my ionic breeze controls my 4 budding females that will be ready for harvest soon, i hear ONA works well.. never tried it myself. good job on going LSD, you will need it for that small area. For that area i would have it exchanging the air every 5 minutes.

Sometimes they can smell in veg, the mostly will smell during flowering.


keep the light you have as close as possible for now, your seedlings are already starting to stretch, with that light you should be able to have it just about touching the leaves, feel it to make sure, but it should not burn.

Alright, I have moved the seedlings less than an inch away from the light. Any suggestions on a cheap fan setup for such a small space? Also what to do about CO2?

co2 is already in the air and proboly will not help you with CFL's.

Read the DIY in my sig, a pc fan works GREAT for that area. i would have wont for exhaust to swap out the air, with a passive intake, and another to blow lightly on the plants.

Might you know of a good place to get the 42 Watt Compact Floro you speak of?

walmart sells 42w 2700 lumen cfls for about 8.50. might be able to pick up a 42w 2900 lumen at a lowes or menards for about 9.00

Alright, 2nd seedling appeared over night. Going to be grabbing new lights, and some fans this after noon. Here are some a pic of the new guy.

if you want to add co2 cheap----take a 2 liter soda bottle--clean--2 cups sugar-two three tablespoons yeast--fill with water--shake up--leave cap off or its a bomb--place in box--co2 factory working.........you'll see bubbles after a few days, its co2

6400k isnt the amount of lumens its the colour

The co2 will be a waste of time unless you get the temps up around 90 degrees, and how are you going to do that with cfl's?

3rd seedling sprouted today. After researching more on the internet, as soon as im happy with the LST (not sure why I said LSD earlier, my brain is dead maybe?) im going straight to 12/12 for an attempt to speed stuff up. Considering I dont need to have a long veg where my plant gets super tall, this might be ideal.

don't think that 12/12 right away is a good idea.......try something more like 16 of light other dark....12/12 could confuse the hell out of the little guys/girls. i did 16 of light once and it only took about a month to mature enough for flowering.
