my first grow

hi everyone, this is my first try at this.. at the moment i have a small closet set up ( sucks ) ive got a tent on the way so shouldnt be long now. ive got one purple kush plant grown from seed. topped once and ive been training her to grow horizontally. im not personally worried about yeild on this one.. i flowered my girl when she was just 10" tall. now shes 3 weeks into flowering and looking good, considering the set up i have..

for lights i have two 26w 2700k cfls and a 300w incandesent light from the hardware store.

Within the next week i will have a 2x2x4.6 dr60 tent and a 150watt hps : )

any advice would help the cause greatly : )

First advice would be ditch the incandescent and add 2 more 2700k cfls or like 1 6500k and 1 2700k and keep them really close.

looking good man... my advice if using flouros for lights...

get yourself a 2' x 4 bulb T5 High Output veg and bloom fixture.. you'll be happy you did

or if you are growing on a budget then try craigslist for a used hps light setup

i bought a 400watt hps 12" x 18" reflector/hood + 400w sylvania grow hps bulb + 400watt hps ballast for $75!!!

You might as well get rid of it now. It's not doing anything for your grow except creating heat and burning electricity.

really?? thanks, im going to take it out. . im heading to the store soon and will buy two more cfls tonight. will it benefit me to get a 6500k and a 2700k?

Generally speaking you want the 6500k for veg and the 2700k for flowering, but some may argue that a mixed spectrum throughout is better. Even is you do use mixed spectrum, your spectrum should be heavy on the spectrums listed above during their corresponding phases.

took out the incandesent. added two more 26 watt 2700k cfls and one 26watt 6500k

i will post new photos next week. hopefully my girl will beef up a bit once i get the hps. im getting a 150w hps and my tent is 2x2x4.5 . once i get the hps should i take the cfls out or leave them in ?

If you can handle the extra heat leave them in. The 6500 cfls give off a small amount of UVB light which will aid in the production of THC within the trichomes. The UBV light is harmful to the calyxes themselves and you plant will react by packing on more trichomes. I did side by side tests a while back and the difference is noticeable. Not really in the highs they give you, even though it could be subtle, but bag appeal went up for sure on the buds closest to the 6500k.

sounds good thanks bostoner, i should be able to handle the heat, i will be getting some duct fans this week. once i get my tent.

I couldnt agree with Bostoner any more... Take that incandescant out asap, and replace it with a couple more CFL's, or if u have the means, get yourself a low-mid wattage Metal Halide core and coil kit and corresponding lamp or two, and a couple low-mid wattage HPS core and coil kits and lamps, and either use the MH for VEG and the HPS's for FLOWER, or if you can control the temp and not burn the plants, then by all means, use both spectrums for the full term... I swear by mixing MH and HPS together, sometimes I take the MH out during early flowering, and I will add a low watt MH back in a few weeks in, then I will take it out and then I will put a 400W MH back in for the last two weeks of flowering, and my, my... The results speak for themselves... It's the difference in night and day, literally... And if you wanna buy some yeast and sugar every week at the grocery store, and make a lil CO2 generator oout of a 1 gallon milk jug, by filling it approx half way with water, and adding 1 lb of sugar, and about 3 or 4 packets of active dry yeast, then that will produce about 4.35 cubic feet worth of very usable CO2 for your bounty, and my Lord, those things will love you for doing that, and you will love the amazing results you will most certainly see, within the very first day or two of having that jug sit in your grow area... Mine is 4' X 2', and I have 3-250W HPS, and 1-250W MH, right now, which is 1 month into flowering, and in another 4-5 weeks, for the last two weeks of flowering, I will take the 250W MH out, and put in my 400W MH alongside the ever-burning 250W HPS', and the resin production will be in overdrive... My lumens are far above the "normal" required level, but my temp is very well controlled, and I have 11 lovely ladies, of which 7 r in 5-gallon buckets, and 4 r in medium-sized containers, and they thrive so well in my mini-ecosystem...

thanks ganjagod, ive got a total of 150watt of cfls in my tent now, and i ordered a 150w hps ,that will be here mon or tuesday of next week. My tent is 2x2x4. im going to leave the cfls in when i get my hps, ill just switch most of them from 2700k to 6500k. I will be trying the co2 tomorrow after work. I will post some new photos on the weekend when i have time : )
I would say that your ladies thrive : ) lots of lumens : ) as this is my first grow i will be learning and tweaking things as i go.. Your input is much appreciated .
