my first grow

Growing for the first time indoors. This is a cfl grow & I can use all the advicenter I can get!!! Plus I want to see you guys' plants!

My #1 seedling has a curled leaf! Is this normal or am I under / over watering?? The soil I'm using has nutrients in it btw.

My #2 seedling still has the shell. I dont wanna touch it but i do wanna help it shed . They are both 1cm and one day old

There fine.The shell should fall off,if not you can gently remove your self,but give it a chance to fall off it self first.You say your soil has nutes in it,so dont feed any for a few weeks or until plant tells you.I like to keep my light as close as I can when they are small to prevent stretching when using cfls.

i agree with rooty420. Keep the cfls about 2 inches from your seedlings. that first one looks like its bending toward the light.

Stop worrying! :-)

If the soil is moist then you are fine - leave it for 48 hours. They are still very very young. Curling is common on the cotyledons (the seed leaf). In a week you will have a good idea of how healthy and vigorous your plants will be. You are doing fine so far! Keep up the good work.

As a first-timer myself, my best advice is be patient! I know, have lived through and suffered because of, and continue to battle the desire to be a helicopter grower/parent, but it seems that things respond the best when left to do their thing without too much love (read: interference). Master that, and you'll be farther than most.

Thanks everyone for replying. (That was quick) :)

Okay today is day two. #1 still curled but I'm not worried about it. The soil was pretty dry and crusty at the top so I watered it lightly. Just enough for it to start draining.

Also I had a nice ghetto growbox but I just moved 5 days ago so it got trashed. Right now I'm winging it in my closet until I get another box. Hopefully today!

My advice would be to get an assload of lights, more is better. Keep lights close because they basically are useless at a distance (cfl's don't get hot so once your plant is decent sized they won't die if they touch it every once in a while). And get lights on the side for the undergrowth because once the light hits the top layer of leaves it basically stops dead and doesn't get to any lower leaves. Here's my last cfl grow. Going to be starting a new one soon.

Great looking grow. I have about 12 cfls. I'll put more lights in and it should look better by tonight. Thanks!

You don't need more lights now, a couple cfl's in the 5500-6500 K is plenty for these tiny guys.

Day2: Set up a box with 3 100 Watt 5000K bulbs and 1 100 Watt 2700K bulb. With a damp towel hanging for humidity & circulation computer fan.
