My first grow!!

image.jpeg So here I am, newbie to these forums and Newbie to growing cannabis.
So here's what's brought me here,
A few weeks a go a friend told me he was moving away and had a plant that he couldn't take with him and said if I wanted it, it's mine.
He brings it round it's about 18inch tall and well established (he's saying about 5 weeks into veg) so following his advice I've been watering it every other day with the nutrients he's given me and two weeks later she's about 2 foot tall and getting bushy, so my plan is transplant the pot into a bigger one give it another 2 weeks then flip it the flower. Question is I can get my hands on a big (1200watt) hps flowering light, the plant is currently under a 60 watt led and I was wondering if the light would be too big for my 18"x18"x5ft grow space?

On the flip side I also had some bag seed that looked good so I've germinated them and had a lot of success from 20 seeds 9 sprouted and I've potted 4 with good results. So now I have 1 big bushy northern lights female in veg under the led and 3 (I gave one of the small ones to my neighbor) small plants from bag seed in another cupboard which is only 3 foot tall, these have all grown well even tho there under a cumulative of 76watt of CFL light, I have started trying some LST with these as to try and keep them low in the hope to keep them in this cupboard and possibly put the led in there as well if the hps will fit in the other one.

What do you guys think?

Be careful, growing cannabis is addictive. you're off to a great start. I'll bump your thread back to the top.
I also suggest some good books if you haven't already.
Marijuana Horticulture The Medical Grower's Bible By Jorge Cervantes
or
Marijuana Grower's Handbook by Ed Rosenthal
Keep good records.
HPS are extremely hot in a small space, 400 w would be better, 600w are more efficient but again will be hotter than a 400w.

Thanks for your reply and the bump I've got the growers handbook and done a lot of reading online which has helped.

My three little babies under cfls I've started to LST and they are responding very well, here's a couple of pics

Wow. That's huge. Gotta be a sativa thing. Good luck man. Hope you got the height to grow that biotch out.

Also. On the lights thing. Hps is cheap. But led cobs will last longer. And the light is unidirectional. Unlike hps mh which throws light in all directions.

The three little ones all came out of one bag of bud guy said it was amnesia haze, the big one is from reputable seed supplier and that's northern lights #1 I can go to 6'6 on the big one, hoping to keep the others under 3ft with training.

Glad you guys think they look healthy

I will have to have a good think about my lighting options I think, may possible look into buying a ufo led light as I've seen good reviews and the amount I spend buying weed would soon pay for itself

Ok I need your help, I've been feeding them as per instructions for the nutrients and I always make sure the water is around pH 6, I've just watered my babies let the water run through and then tested the ph of the water when it came out and it was 4.9. Is this right, I'd heard that was how to test pH of the soil

Don't cheap out on the light though. It's better to get something good once. Than pay for a dozen turds.

Ask @Olive Drab Green . He'll show you what I mean.
Oh, I didn't see this. Did you want me to show him what good lights look like? He thought you meant for me to tell him what happens when you use bad lights, and I mistook him for a sock. My bad.

270w worth of the best light around at this time. Puts out around the same light as a 600w HPS in an 18x18 for each unit. Using 3 of these, I can cover a 4.5x4.5 (i can cover up to a 4.5x4.5) with somewhere around 1k PPFD including overlap increases. That'll bring it to about 95% of its maximum growth potential as PPFD is concerned.

COBs:
2 Cree CXB 3590s, 3500k, 80CRI, CD/Top Bin.
Driven by two separate Meanwell LPF-90D-42 2150mA drivers at full power (89w, 78 to the light)

1 Bridgelux Vero29C, 3500k, 90CRI.
Powered by a Meanwell LPF-90D-54 1670mA driver at full power (92 watts, 85 to the light).

They look good mate can only hope hey, off to get either 1 250watt or 2 125 watt CFL on Friday to chuck into the mix
You should only use those for seed. If you want really good bud, you don't have to get COBs if you don't want to, but don't skimp on the light if you want good bud, because with less effort than you probably think it takes, you can grow top shelf bud like you've never smoked before. The three main things that you need to not skimp on:

1. Lighting
2. Nutes
3. Good genetics.

Everything else is just remembering to be patient and not over-loving your plant to death.

So I've got home today and there's been a power cut it looks like the lights have been out for three hours middle of the day will this cause me any issues?
