I ALMOST STARTED A FOREST FIRE!!!
S0... there is this pretty rotted log right next to my grow site that i usually use as a bench/storage space. It is raised off the ground a little and i keep my water jugs, ferts, tools, sprayer etc. behind/underneath it. So, earlier today around noon i went to the site, carried more water, did a little weeding, spraying, watering the whole nine yards. When I'm finally done, I go sit on my log for a nice smoke! When done, i rub it out on the log, like I usually do, pack up my stuff and proceed to head out...
(Fast-forward about 5 hours)
I'm back at my place, chillin, reading the forums, looking at a bunch of other peoples grows and I'm like fuck it! I'm bored as shit, I'm gonna go back and hang out at my grow site! So i roll out, everything is fine until i start to get a little closer... I notice that I can clearly see the shafts of light that are penetrating through the surrounding foliage. I'm thinking to myself, "Wow, that's pretty cool! why hasn't the light looked like that before??" Then it HIT ME....... "SMOKE!!!!!" So i run full speed toward the site and as i approach, i take a quick glance over my Girls! There's thick smoke EVERYWHERE, but thank goodness, they're all ok. Then i look over at what USED to be my "Bench" and it is nothing but a pile of smoldering ashes. The ENTIRE thing, I'd say 15 - 20 feet of log had been completely burned to the ground! plus, on one end of the log, probably a 12 x 12 area of underbrush had been burned away. By the time i got there, there was no actual flames visible, just a lot of smoke, and embers. so the first thing i noticed was that both of my nute containers had been burned up! (they were under the log, guess its time for a FLUSH!) My spray bottle was GONE! One of the mostly empty gallon water jugs had completely melted. Fortunately, the two that were full of water were still intact! I immediately grabbed them and began to douse all the embers, took a quick piss on some smoldering remnants of my bench and ran to fill three more jugs with water. So after an hour+ of HARDCORE FIREFIGHTING, my clothes were drenched with sweat! (The mid 90 degree weather with humidity through the roof didn't help much either!) But i finally put that sucker out!
But lets just say, I HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON!!! From now on i am going to be INFINITELY more careful with fire in the... WOODS of all places! Seriously, you might as well just change my name to Smoky The Bear! This could have been SOOO much worse!! What if i didn't go back to the site for the second time, I VERY VERY RARELY do that! I could have burned the ENTIRE forest down! Possibly someones home as well, not to mention, my little garden could have easily been toast! I debated with myself for a while about whether or not to post this story. Eventually, i decided to let this be a lesson, a warning to others so that they do not make the same mistakes that i did...
