My first real attempt, bag seed

well, I figured I might as well do a journal. I might be able to get some valuable info and tips from all you guys/gals here. This is my first real attempt at growing and I hope to end up with some decent smoke out of it! I started off by germinating these, they all 4 cracked in a less than a day. I put them all in the same pot (I know that's not good) they all sprouted within a day. So now I gotta figure out what the hell I'm gonna do with em... any suggestions?

Well I think they are still looking pretty good. I added a light today, just one cfl 26 watts right at the top of em, but that's all I got right now. I will add more as soon as I can. They're about 2x the size they were in the pics, maybe more. I'll add more pics soon, probably tomorrow.

The biggest mistake is to over water them.

Poke a hole in the bottom of your cups
so the soil will dry up between watering.

Babys can grow roots very quickly.


The tap root is the most sensitive.

If you cut the tap root,
the plant will take a long time to recover.

In nature, a cannabis plant grows deep roots.
(as much as 20 feet)

But since we water the plant,
it doesn't need to search that deep.

Growing in soil has it's own science,
and for me hydro is much easier.

The rhyzoshpere is a mysterious place,
and soil just adds more mystery to the equation.

Hydro is simple,
if you use RO.

I am afraid I am not able to help you much with your soil grows.

My only advice is:

Use RO for your soil grow also.

Let them dry out between watering.

Don't feed them too soon, too much or too often.

Thanks for your advice! Dirt was the easiest way to get them growing without any construction, so here I am. When I germ'ed them I didn't really expect them to crack within 24 hrs, I heard it could take up to a week, but oh well. I just hope I'll actually be able to yield some from at least one of these

Also for anyone else who might read this, I am using MG potting mix (its all I had) so I looked up the npk for it, it is 21-7-14 can someone tell me if this is good, bad, just okay, terrible or what. And when I decide to flower can I just add p? So far *fingers crossed* it doesn't seem to be hurting them, but what the hell do I know!

I've seen some purdy girls
grown in the dirt.

I'm not talented enough to grow that way.

When you transplant them,
you might consider using a soilless mix,
then you can feed them hydro nutes.

That way if your grow hydro later,
you'll already be familiar with the nutes.

thanks for the tip on transplanting to soilless!! do you think the 21-7-14 will be okay on them for the time being? it says it feeds up to 3 months (I don't plan on leaving them in that long) I just don't want it to burn the babies! I edited my previous post and added pics to it, please check them out and tell me what you think

Are you going to grow them all in one pot?

Now would be a good time to separate them
if you can afford more pots.

They will become very root bound in that pot.

If you are growing bonsai,
then that pot will work OK.

You can take clones from the bonsai moms.

MiracleGrow is usually kind of "HOT" for weed.

Well, I have been gone from home for a few days. Went to the Beale St Music Festival in Memphis, it was awesome, by the way!! Anyway I am back with an update.

I transplanted them when I got back (hope I didn't wait too long, about 1 week old at this point 5/6/0 and the roots had already started to circle the bottom of the pot! That was fast! I didn't know they grew so fast. Anyhow, I only had on hand two more smaller pots, so I took two of them out, planted one in each of the smaller pots and left two in the original pot. I hope this will work, or I'm gonna have to make a trip to the store!! Which I already need to, because I know I don't have enough light on them. They are getting too tall for where they are currently so I will have to move them and get more light very soon! Anyways here's some pics. There's some discoloring on some of the lower leaves, but I heard that's not too big a deal, is it? They're about a week and half now.

Well, after some research on the net I have concluded that my babies have fungus gnats!! Damned parasites!! Anyone know wtf I should do now?!?!?! They are already causing leaves to die, sucks!

Since you are growing in soil,
you need Gnatrol.

It is pretty expensive
and you won't need a lot.

If you get a liter bottle,
it should last for many grows,
if you store it properly.

Gnatrol will kill the larvae,
and stop them from re-laying eggs agian.

Some guys have recommended No-Pest strips.

I haven't tried No-Pest yet,
as a means of prevention.

I have tried the sticky traps,
and they work fairly well,

I would cover the top of the soil
with the sticky trap kinda like this.


My next attempt I am going to use a neopreme cover,
and then add sticky traps on top off that.

I didn't get gnats until very late in my last grow,
so I'm gainin' on the bastards.

I have NO GNATS priority
on my next mission!

okay, where can I get this? I live in a VERY small town!! I have to drive about 30-45 min just to get to a home depot!! We do have a wal-mart and a farm/ranch store, but that's about it. are there any alternatives to this, or is it my only hope?!

I'm am worried about my poor little babies! They haven't been growing as much, like they were at first! I really want to save them!! I also think my pots are still too small! Will it shock them too much to transplant them again?!? I know its not ideal, but neither is being root bound.

This is way more stressful than I anticipated! LOL!

also, Earl, about the RO water, I can't find it around here. will distilled water be just as good, or not?! That's about all I can find, they don't carry the RO water at my local store anymore, I guess. Thanks
