Yea. It sounds like a lot but it's really not, the plant responds quite quickly with new growth. You could probably do it earlier but you won't have near the root system developed. The response may be a slower, then again may be entirely different. Not sure, I've always followed the directions. I usually clone the top after I cut it.

yeah I've topped before but never that early,my Jock Horror has four tops now but just recently done it.I think I have two ready then,I'll do it today
