My "It's Almost Time To Harvest" - Cool Cab Diary

Hello all, ... another female grower here, and I'd like to introduce you to my "Cool Cab" grow which is nearly ready to be harvested. YAY

For the last 6 years I have been growing under a 1000w MH/HPS just in my basement, but I decided it was time to get with a stealth grow so I could control the odor. So in Nov '07 I ordered a Cool Cab from SunlightSheds.com. Yeah I know I could have made it myself for a lot cheaper, but I'm too lazy to figure out how. (I'm a stoner ya' know? Go figure :joint:) - So this is my first grow in a confined space, so far, I'm lovin' it! Especially the no odor part.

Unfortunately my cab was a couple weeks delayed in getting to me (first one was damaged in transit) so my Juicy Fruit was set to 12/12 later than planned and has overgrown the cab.

Here's the cab setup
Sunlight Sheds Cool Cab (72" x 36" x 18")
600w MH/HPS digital ballast with cool tube
Soil grow - American Dream and Juicy Fruit

Anyway, here are a couple of pics as of 14 Jan 08. There are 4 American Dream females and one Juicy Fruit (now known as Fruity Juice) - both from Sensi Seeds. on the right ... the big one on the right is the Juicy Fruit. She's a monster. I gave her a couple small dosings of BushMaster but it certainly didn't stop any upward growth.

I went to 12/12 on 12th Dec (ironically 12/12 :) ) with the JF. 50-60 days gives a harvest of about 29th Jan to 8th Feb.

The 4 AD's were moved into the cab on the 21st Dec with an approx same target harvest as the Juicy Fruit. AD requiring only 45-50 days.

So if all goes well I should be harvesting in the next few days, I've been waiting for the trichs to all turn cloudy (I like to harvest at the first hint of amber or before) but the trichs are still showing a good amount still being clear, but they do have nice bulbous heads growing.

Feel free to post or ask any questions.

Here's another pic of the cab on 21st Jan 2008. I've had to use weights to bend down the buds on the right. They were 1" from the top of the shelf above.

Mid Dec '08 I used 2.5mls of Bushmaster in 1 quart of water (equiv of 10mls p/gall), which did nothing to slow her growth. She was 17" tall at the time. She continued to grow at the rate of nearly an inch a day. 8 days later she was given the same dose of Bushmaster. Still nothing. Just the leaves got burned (which happened with the first dose I think).

I can't figure out how to dose the BushMaster in soil. Any suggestions?

Here are a couple more pics of two of the American Dream plants. One pic was taken two weeks ago, the other today.

You can see how much the one on the left has grown, and that is the plant that was Bush Mastered.

Was thinking about getting the caddy system from sunlight sheds? Do you think it is worth it. Is this your first grow in the cool Cab. The Shed's come with 400watt lighting so was the 600watt upgrade from sunlight shed? How many plants do you have an about how much are you getting from your grow?

I absolutely love this cab (considering I've moved down from a 1000w light just in the middle of the basement.)

Is it worth it? It was for me, because I don't have the time nor the inclination to figure out how to make one (as well as do a good job of it). I'd rather pay for someone to do it. I am well aware that the parts probably came up to less than $1k, but I'm happy to pay an extra $1k for their R&D.

This is my first grow in the shed. My 1k ballast blew (6 yrs old) so I had just vegged out these plants under a $9 400 MH bulb. The Juicy Fruit was too tall by the time the cab arrived despite me topping her, once, twice, three times to keep her height down. (The Bushmaster sure didn't make a fart of a difference).

Right now I have 5 plants in the cab.
1 x Juicy Fruit which is in a 3 gallon (?) pot, then I have
2 x American Dream in 1/2 gallon 7/11 cups and
2 x American Dream in 1.5 gallon (or is it one gallon) pots

I'm currently testing betwen which is a better pot to use in the cab. I think the 1/2 gallon cups are a bit of a waste, as the plant has ended up taking just about the same size footprint. So a bigger pot would have been better.

I'm hoping of pulling in at least 4oz with this grow. I thin the Juicy Fruit should yeild me well over 2 oz (I'm hoping more like 3+) and if I just calculate for an 1/2oz for the smaller plants (hopefully I'll get more like an oz from the ones in the bigger pots). I think by the time I get the cab and pot size dialed in I hope to pull in at least 6oz a grow.

The cab was supposed to come with the 400w system, so I bought myself a nice 400w Horti Eye bulb and when I came to install it I noticed that the bulb that came out said 600w. I called up Sunlight sheds and they said that they had run out of 400w so had upgraded everyone's with 600.
I wish they had told me before I spent $70 on a bulb that is now useless to me. I'm planning on buying a nice 600w bulb when I get some more $$'s.

The only problem with the cab I can see is running out of height, ideally I'd like to take out the top shelf and move the light up to the top, but then I wouldn't have my nursery area. There's only 5' high of flowering space, if your pot is over 12" high and you need 12" of space from your light that only gives you 3' of plant space. So if I can' move down to 7" high pots, that'll give me 5" more of space.

The next couple of grows will all be a learning experience with the cab, till I get it fine tuned to what works the best.

Attached is a pic, you can see the different sized pots (and heights) that the plants are. This was not a very well organized grow in terms of timing lol.

And the best thing for me with this cab is NO SMELL!!! Man, my house used to get really stinky as I was growing right next to the furnace/air return and it was pumping the house with sweet odors.

Well I decided that today I would harvest my Juicy Fruit plant. The trichs were all clear/cloudy with the rare amber one in between. Hopefully, this is just how I'll like it with this strain, as I've never tried it before.

I clipped quite a few buds off, you can see the total buds in the two photos below. (they're two separate batches of buds).

All I have left to harvest is the popcorn buds on the plant.

So what's your guess, what do you think the yield from this will be. Oh I can't wait to try it. I'll probably quick dry a little budlet for a taste later.

Hopefully I'll be harvesting my American Dream within the next week too.

I have a cool cab as well got it 10th of jan took forever to come about a month I put in 14 seedlings I sprouted from I dont know what kind of seed .... first grow wanted to see if I could do it before buying seeds ... When I first started using it it heated up way to much 95deg .... the light was runnin way to hot but it only had 1 fan so i installed a fan on the exhaust side and that brought the temp way down when i switched to 12/12 and changed the bulb i found out about the 600watt which is prob why it was runnin to hot ... my auto fill on the hrdro sys leaked right off the bat the black hose they had was the wrong size for the furrow they had tape around it to bring it up to size so I put the right size hose with a new furrow on it and that fixed it ... I switched to 12/12 on the 31st of jan and put bushmaster in the res 1/2 teaspoon and my plants are 16" now .... I killed 2 plants cause the nozzel touched the stem for a while on them..... now i just removed 8 males .... so i have 4 plants left ..... we should start a sunlightshed thread for sunlightshed users problems

Yeah, I hear ya' my cab took forever to arrive too. Have you noticed any problems with a light leak from the top section down to the main growing area?? There's about a 1/2" gap at the front of the shelf where the doors close.

I didn't use the hydro stuff, I figured I'd use soil to learn how the cab works then maybe switch over to hydro.

I haven't had any problems with the heat, I did with smell, until I noticed that I hadn't plugged in the main exhaust fan. But you should have 2 fans blowing in down below, as well as the exhaust up top, plus the fan for the light should be plugged in too. My temps get to about 85/86 at the most by the top of the light, but down low under the canopy the temp can be nearly 20 degrees cooler.

We do need a sunlight shed thread. I need to figure out how to install some lighting for the top half, that little bulb they gave isn't enough to keep mothers going.

I don't think that top part would be any good on 12/12 u would have to make up some kinda drapes out of that material inside the cab ...... u can get that stuff at HD .... but I still don't think it would stop the light ..... when my shed arrived it was short the cloning dome setup so when I complained they sent me one and I just got it after another month but what they sent was the other cloning tank they sell for $110 so it can be used separately .... I started a thread in grow room section called sunlightshed fixes

mrs milfweed,

i very new (cab is on order). I noticed u r using dirt, did you find the hydro components difficult to use? or do you find that dirt gives better results?

cheers
