My lady seems a little sad.

This is not true. You can do neither. I did hydro for years with just adding my nutrients. Never had any issues. This sterile vs myco thing is just the latest forum fad. Wait 10 years and everything will change.

Adding in red spectrum light...

Technically that is still just running it sterile. You don't need to add anything to run sterile, you just need to keep your reservoir temps at a level where you don't get pathogens. Since not everybody has an environment where they can keep temps in the goldilocks zone, understanding ways to keep your roots healthy is very important. How is that a fad?
Besides, the intention was to keep people who are using beneficials from creating a anaerobic mess in their res by killing them all with bleach.

Nano,
I apologize for responding to your post as I did. I re-read it and see we are on the same side on this issue. Certainly proper res management via temp and aeration is not a fad.

Newbs tend to follow forum trends and this bleach/H2O2 for sterile res thing is an example.

No offense taken at all. I stay far away bleach in my res personally. I've had to use great white in the past when my temps got out of control and it helped, but temperature control is where it is at.
