I think that might work! I just have to get larger duct to go around the whole thing. Would I then have one fan sucking out and one blowing in?

If it works you want it set up so the fan is BLOWING cool air across the cooltube and exiting your grow...

then you have your exhaust fans and either passive intakes (which should be fine) or 2/3 CFM of your exhaust in intake...

You want cool air to leak in to the box... slight vacuum, instead of positive pressure...

This pic should help with the set-up install... courtesy of Al B. Fuct...lol..

Thx! I think that will all help a lot, I need to get some sleep for now but I will repost what I do tomorrow and let you know how it works out. I think that is the best idea probably to cover the entire end of the hood and exhaust the air out that way. I guess I should have just purchased a hood with glass and exhaust ports already on it!! Not sure why the guy sold me this one but i'm stuck with it so i'll just tape the crap out of it and cross my fingers!!! I use a lot of that metal tape any harm in using that on the lamp? I think I noticed the same tape in some of your pics, it has red writing on it, I can pretty much create a tube off of my light hood simply using that tape, and just tape it to the 4'' exhaust tupe that is right under it.

Yeah man... I think you have the right idea...

I will say that I would prefer seeing the tube feed straight.. like the idea of a 8" duct over the whole thing, better that taping the 4" duct from the bottom...

the less truns on the airflow the better off you are... and while you are testing, I would try the strongest fan blowing across the cooltube...

I have a 170 CFM blowing across mine, and the exhaust I am using right now is only a 4" 80 CFM...

get rid of the heat from the light and you should be within 4 degrees of the outside temp...

Get some sleep and let me know how it goes tomorrow...

Cheers..

Ok so here is my latest work. I attached the 240CFM 6'' fan to the end of the light hood so its sucking out the air, and the other end is now attached to the end of a fan that is blowing air from outside through the tube, Its been on for 20 minutes its at 82 right now.

Ok I made one more adjustment, I now have another fan blowing outside air into the room in addition to the fan blowing the outside air through the cool tube, turned it on and its maintaining a temp of 82!!! finally!!! I'm done working on it!!! Tomorrow I'm getting plants!! Thx gypsy for all your wonderful advice!!!!

All right!!!!

Cool beans man....!!!!

one last note.. if you can, it is better to have a bigger exhaust fan than the intake, as to have a slight vacuum... so that fresh air leaks in...not the opposite...

82F is a beauty compared to the temps you had earlier, but it would be nice to lower it a few degrees more...

I would deff. save up for a real cool tube... they are worth the 90 bucks in gold... in my opinion...

I would look into more durable, stronger fans too...

from now on, the diff will be in the small steps... the fewer turns in the cooltube duct, the better it will work... and the cooler it will run...

good strong positive flow exhaust, matched with 2/3 cfm intake... smooth ducting instead of the slinky type...

COOL TEMPS OUTSIDE THE BOX...are a big way to help cool things a bit...

So you see, you still have a lot you can do to help out your plants... but it will take time to tweak the setup...

I am so glad you are finally at a point where you feek your set up is useable...

Good job on the hood tape over!!! but let's get a real cooltube in there...

Have you seen those bake a round bread pyrex tubes or sale on ebay?

pefect

they sell plastic adapter from 6" to 8" at home depot or you can use straight 6" duct...

maybe even figure out a way to remove your hood and set up that socket a little better for the tube you have... no need to spend extra cash... we need the function... but the $90 ones from HTG rock (that's what I got)

Anyways man.. rock 0n!!! I'm go to sleep now...

Peace..

Temp is staying around 84 with plants, not too bad I'm happy with that. I have 2 AK47, 3 Purple Urkle, 1 Lemon Kush, and 2 Mr. Nice, all indica's, my fav. I used Black Gold putting soil with coco something in it, lol they said it was the best at the dispensary so I bought it along with my plants.
Couple questions.
How often do you water? I want to be on a consistant watering schedule, and I am using foxfarm grow big (1/2 TSP/gal) every other watering.
How often do you mist the?
How fast should I expect to notice growth?

I don't even know what those are... sorry...

Sure...

I run a Hydro DWC (Deep Water Culture) setup, so my plants are sitting in water 24/7...

Yeah... I used to grow outside.. and they got water when it rained...

I notice growth daily... but it nay take a while for them to adjust...

Looks like a good set up.I would be careful using those bathroom fans. They are not the best and have been known to catch fire if you run them for a long time. I'd 86 those and get a inline fan from the depot. They are called vent boosters or something like that. The last thing we all want is a fire.

100% agreed...

Thanks for bringing it up....

Sorry for not having said that myself...

Good looking out Fat Salad....+rep...

This is the fan that I use on my cool tube... KICKS ASS!!!!!!

and I have the 6"/440CFM bigger brother to that one,for the exhaust....

So far, I have been blessed with low temps... I am actually feeding the exhaust from the cooltube (65F air) back into the tent as the intake.... But only because I have COLD (it's 20F outside right now) air to feed the cooltube... tent closed temp is an even 76F....

Anyways... here's the fan...

Cheers....

Ok well yes last thing I want is a Fire. I cant afford new fans yet but I will put them high on my priority list, I'll need to buy 3 but I have found them for around $30 for a 6'' inline duct fan called an air booster, w 240CFM. Thats the one I have on my cool tube now and its great. I'm happy with my temps I prefer to be on the higher end of the spectrum anyway, its staying around 82, gets to 84 at the most. But I'll have to cool it down for summer anyway so those fans will come in handy. You think the bathroom fans will be ok for a few weeks?

So my plants are on day 2, I have a PH tester and it says the PH is about 1.25. Should I proceed with raising the PH or let them get adjusted first?
Should I worry about Nitrogen?

It will be ok for now...

Those $30 fans suck in the long run... they loose CFM at every bend and imperfection on the duct... no guts...

Centifugal fans are what you need...

Your intake can be passive or id you choose to blow air in, it should be 2/3 of the exhaust, causing a slight negative pressure in the grow space...

Save and buy the right tools... the fans I have will be with me for many years to come...

and crappy cheap stuff breaks... sucks to loose a crop because of a $150 fan...

My tent, all zipped up is at 75F right now...

As for the PH... 1.25... wouldn't that be like ACID...

Check it again mate.. sounds like something is off... that low would probably burn your hands... too acidic...

hit me back...
