I would just say, since you running that 4 inch fan and filter in your box which is not that big an area....i would reccomend that you do not use an intake fan and rather leave it passive. Just light trap it so there are no light leaks.
Since the fan you put in there is overpower for the space, no point in using the axial fan as it will only cause pressure in the box and affect both fans. i'm sure with a speed controller you can dial it in nice for the actual size of the box and eliminate as much noise as possible.
I have just realized that exactly. I have been running the carbon filter only, temps are down for the most part, 75-83 (ambient is kind of hard, it is in my closet and heat builds up)
And I haven't been using the axial at all, it spins though as the 4inch fan is pulling.

Curious as to what everyone thinks about using a small evaporative cooler to cool my box down, and remove sponges as the evaporative cooler will humidify the box.

I'm not really understanding how you plan to use such a cooler in the cab but it sounds like alot of work no? Are you just going to have it in the closet area or actually trying to put it or duct it into the box? Just running in the area will lower the ambient and thus lower the cab temp it I couldn't imagine getting much more tricky with it.

Removing the axial may actually increase the flow a little since you say the blades are turning on it then I would imagine its impeding the flow. I don't know what temps you are shooting for, mine are in the 75-84 range and I'm ok with it.

Without the axial fan it seems like the temperatures are about the same as they were without the axial fan. I want to buy another PC fan and use it for exhaust, I don't think my 4 inch inline + carbon filter is exchanging the air fast enough. The ambient in the closet with the box on is about 75, the ambient in the house is about 72. Sometimes I open the box and use a floor mounted fan to draw the heat out of the box.

Thoughts on having an upper and lower exhaust for the box (the upper being my carbon filter/4inch fan), the lower fan where my intake was.. Then have a passive floor intake, or maybe even active intake. I would like my ambient temperature to be within 5 degrees, possible?

No, I have been working out some plant issues, sexing my plants, cloning, built another veg box. But I want this thing to be perfect for flower.

85 degrees is way too hot to me, I don't want to HAVE to open the box unless I am working on the plants.

I feel ya brother, i had heat issues for quite sometime! Glad i went with the 6in inline duct fan cuz if i went any smaller id have some major issues as well!

Well the problem is I don't think you're supposed to run that much pressure through the can-fan I currently have, so I am not sure the path to take now.

I want to run a second exhaust but not sure if that would ruin the pressure generated by the exhaust setup I am currently using.

Looking back at your pics it looks like your exhaust is hanging down inside the cabinet, I would have that as close to flush mount as possible.

I cant really run it much further unless I went to uninsulated. I guess I could, you think it'll make a big difference? The exhaust is sealed

Well I don't know, just in mind... Heat rises, I'd want my heat to exit the cab at the top with the shortest path possible. It's as if you are venting from the bottom even though your hose is going out the top, know what I mean. Look at my sig grow, I think the 2nd page shows where my exhaust is and it's pretty flush. For specific numbers, my cab is about 6 degrees over ambient, using a 50 cfm fan on the 150hps.

I understand that completely and I appreciate your input, but I feel my method was the most stealth-like. So I would rather add more fans honestly unless you have a different idea?

Maybe I should put a small pc fan at the bottom of the exhaust tube to assist the air out the bottom?

I really just didn't want hot air coming directly out the top-back portion.

By using a formula (3.413 x 220w)/deltaT (internal temperature-ambient) I get a required 150 CFM to keep the temperature within 5 degrees of the ambient temperature, but with the carbon filter I will estimate a 20% loss of CFM.


CFM required = 150
CFM actual = 120
