my opinion on paper towel method

i used to use the paper towel. decided it was just plain unnecessary.
pop my seeds right into my root riot cubes. spray them with some water every day.

i give the seeds all the time they need. few weeks later, if they arent sprounted, i will dig in there and check. dispose of the seed if its not doing shit. have saved RR cubes before, but lately tend to just throw them away.
cubes dont take up any space, and you can still check for taproots in cubes, they are very spongy, and reform after any tears are made in the material.

but whatever works works.

Yeah, funny how different people tend to find what works for them. I have had horrible germ rates with both RR and planting directly in soil. I dunno why, but "different strokes for different folks!"

Hey, I only ever used paper towel method with great success. I learned real quick to transfer the seed to rockwool as soon as it cracks. I like the paper towel method because I can check it every 12 hours as they are usually ready in less than 2 days. I also like to take only the seeds that sprout quick and lose the duds. This method works for me although I will be trying seed directly into medium just for kicks...what the heck! Do whatever gets u the result u want as there are many ways that will work.

Anyone else take a swipe of their chicks pussy juice and put it on the seed to help it along or is it just me?

I start mine in the THUNDER DOME!!!!!!! what now?!
Freakin' hilarious!! Laughed out loud...

I started hundreds of veg and flower seeds this spring... all came up just putting them directly into the growing medium and keeping moist. The paper towel thing only satisfies the curiosity and need to know that my precious seed has sprouted. For seasoned growers... tomatoes/flowers/pumpkins/parsley/brussel sprouts/mJ/green beans... etc etc. they accept the fact if you put it in the grow medium and keep it moist it will sprout... 99% (don't quote me on that) of the time that happens.

I did soak some seed overnight - moon flower and vining plants that have a big, thick seed just to soften up the seed to aid in germination... but likely not needed.
I started a seed of the herb type the other day and it sprouted in less than 48 hours directly into growing medium.
Personally I think the paper towel thing is a waste of time. Just my opinion... to each his or her own.

Good growing all you farmers!
