My Personal Story

I am writing this to try and get help to inspire the legislators of this state to rethink their position on Medical Marijuana.

My Story:

I am a 100% disabled Viet-Nam Veteran, I live on a fixed income in constant pain from back injuries and suffer extreme PTSD, severe anxiety attacks, and also have colon cancer and Sub-arachnoiditis from head trauma sustained while in the military
.
I was a user of Medical Marijuana because I received better pain relief and relaxation from it than most of the meds the physicians will give you.

In October last year, I had a generalized warrant served at my home. The way I was arrested is insane. I answered my door completely unarmed with no intention of denying access or show aggression in any way. My wife was in Florida caring for her sisters children while they were on a vaction.

I was met by a 12 gauge shotgun in my face and after the initial schock noticed that there was 1. The Buffalo Trace Area Drug Development Task Force. 2. The Ky State Police 3. The Fleming County Sheriff's Dept, 4. The Mason County Sheriff's Dept, 5, A Swat team was on standby, 6. A helicopter was on standby for whatever reason.

I came to find out through my attorneys Petition for Discovery that this was supposedly an investigation into charges that I was trafficking Marijuana to Lexington, Ky. Selling Controlled substances, and posessed huge amounts of pills that were allegedly sold by me. This was all based on anomymous tips from April to October and was told that my neighbors had all been interviewed and there was irrefutable evidence.

On the warrant, my name was spelled wrong and SSN was not correct, my wifes Birthdate was wrong and the Petition for discovery showed that the only evidence that was found was that there was allegedly some Marijuana leaves in my trash can which is located 750-800 ft from my residence on a highly traveled public highway.

My contention is that if there was this many funds allocated and wasted by this investigation, why was not one neighbor I have spoken with interveiwed, why was there not one person who could corroborate that I had sold anything of any type to anyone and why were the names on the warrant and other information wrong.. That pot could have been placed in my trash by anyone who drives on US68 which is a major highway.

My concern is that if they had truly investigated me, they would have known there was no traffic by anyone except my Pastor and friends locally I attend church with who visit rarely. 10 days later my wife was arrested on the same charges and we were both held on 10,000 dollar cash bonds each.

As a result, My Blood pressure medicine, my pain medicine, and my seizure medicines were witheld from me by the local authorities. They were in proper containers, recently dispensed by the VA Hospital and had the proper amounts in them. and I wound up spending four days in the local hospital being stabilized from seizures, dehydration and acute anxiety attacks.

I have still not fully recovered and will probably never be able to regain any sort of composure after this incident. thank God, my neighbors knew of my medical condition and when they heard the story, went voluntarily and got the money to get me out of that jail before I died. My wife had no sort of prior record and I did have prior convictions from when I was experiencing a severe case of PTSD in the time frame of 1975-1979. if this is not an utter waste of our tax dollars and an overkill attitude by these agencies, I would like to know why.

I sincerely believe that someone needs to look into why this incident occured and why there was such shoddy information used to obtain a warrant when a simple phone call to the local Law enforcement would have netted the same results at a much greater savings in both money and my health. Plus the humiliation and way we were treated by this/these agencies was absurd and needless.

My wife was a substitute school teacher and was immediately relieved of her job which she loved, we are both active in the Church and local community affairs and I am a huge advocate in trying to help our kids stay away from drugs and also voluntarily try to help our returning veterans get the help they so badly need upon their return.

I am sure I will never see this on the news because it is dominated by those who have already become celebrities for whatever reasons. But I felt that someone should come and look into this matter. Maybe I was wrong to grow Marijuana in my own residence which never left the premises but I feel there is more to this than just what is being told in the local papers. I have at least voiced my thoughts on what I consider a travesty on someone who volunteered to serve their country and as a result am being persecuted for it.

Thank you for tyour time and I hope someone will read this and take an interest.

Kentuckians for Medical Marijuana Launches Interactive Website

2009-01-09

The mission of K4MM.org is to organize and lobby for an immediate change in Kentucky's marijuana laws to allow the use of marijuana for all the ailments for which it is therapeutic.

For_Immediate_Release:

Lexington, KY (PRWEB) January 9, 2009 --
K4MM.ORG launches the first Kentucky medical marijuana website to provide a place for Kentuckians to organize and lobby for an immediate change in Kentucky’s marijuana laws .

16 other states and countless medical societies and groups recognize marijuana’s many medical benefits and have passed laws and regulations to legitimize its use but Kentucky continues to categorize marijuana as a Schedule One Narcotic with no medical benefits and a high potential for abuse.

That is pure fiction and an absurd basis from which to try to enact reasonable laws addressing affordable health care and efficient law enforcement. We believe this has come about because our lawmakers and policy experts are uninformed regarding marijuana as a medicine. They are kept in the dark by certain interests who are making money off the current madness. Well, it is up to us to lead them into the sunlight of knowledge and insight which will result in allowing marijuana as a medicine in Kentucky. And that is what we intend to do.

This organization and site belong to you’all, the disabled vet, the injured worker, the car accident victim and all those people trying to cope with chronic pain in an insane world where you are criminalized for associating with a safe natural medicine that is saving your life. This must change and you and your friends are agents for that change.

Alert everyone you know about our efforts. Send them to this site. Use our forums and post your thoughts on our message boards. Let us organize through our veteran’s halls and organizations, the American Legions, the VFWs, the Veteran’s and other hospitals and support groups like the Multiple Sclerosis and Asthma Societies. Get your church involved along with your local sheriffs and newspaper editors. Many people from many walks of life want this change to take place. Help us find them and let’s organize to lobby the legislature.

The time is now and we are the agents of change.

Thanks for your help.

You know what is needed is action. It is so easy to sit back and once your personal state has opened its mind and allowed those who need the help of Medical MJ to have it to lose sight of what got you there. The efforts of millions are needed to help the other 34 states that have not recognized reform. My grandfather grew hemp here in the state of Ky during WWII and it was one of the top producers of hemp because it was so vital. Deferments were given even for those who farmed. I am a fouth generation veteran from this state. Moving is not the answer, change is. As long as we allow those in power to keep their foot on our neck, we will never change. do not become too complacent. remember that the Feds still have the power to stop the change at any time. Until the mindset of the FDA, DEA, and most of all huge pharamaceuticals changes we will be at their mercy. I am so glad you have the right to make a decision that is for yourself. But we need that help now in this state. Until all rgulations are changed and the plant is rescheduled, there is not a complete victory.

I agree 100%.Every day i am writing to my represenatives and congressman asking them to vote for marijuana decriminalization.I am at the moment waiting for replies from Nathan at MPP to see what else i can do to stop the stupidity of those in Washington and here in my state.
All of the people who smoke,no matter what they feel should be done, need to GET OFF THEIR AZZES AND TAKE A STAND FOR MARIJUANA REFORM.
This should not be a fight between growers and smokers, but a fight against outdated and failing drug laws that hurt people like you and me.OPH

I am not sure if this is the proper place or manner in which to ask this if not please help guide me in the right direction.
My attorney is trying to make a landmark case here in Ky and would like for those with medical degrees and those who are knowlegable to affirm that my conditions could benefit more from the use of Cannibis than the truckload of Morphine, Hydrocodone, Klonipin, and other narcotics that I have been prescribed. I know I have tried them all, Fentanyl, Dilaudid, Oxycontin, Demerol, Talwin, and the MS Contin, Hydrocodone for rescue doses, and Klonipin for seixures are basuically what I use now. I was prescribed Seconal, Nuinal, Nembutal, Luminal, and basically all the benzodiazepines for my stress illnesses and am now having to resort back to the MS and Hydro regimen for pain.
When I was able to use the Cannibis, I could basically do without nearly all but the Klonipin and greatly reduce my intake of the Narcotics and Benzodiazpines by 1/2. I am diagnosed with Chronic pain from Lumbar, Thoractic, and Cervical DDD from several Helicoter Autorotations, My right elbow has been replaced and the Ulnar nerve reworked twice, Sub-Arachnoiditis, PTSD, Hepatitis C, Chronic Anxiety, Transient Ischemic Seizures, Colon Cancer, Diverticulitis, Chronic Pancreatitis, an Aneurysm of my Right Abdominal Aorta, and Kidney Stones.
I am tired of the plethora of meds for those when I can get relief from a simple plant without all the side effects of the prescribed meds.
If you would be willing to take time from what I am sure is a busy schedule for all of you and write a letter of support to my attorney, I would be forever grateful. If you can and are willing to do this his address is:
Gatewood Galbraith
155 East Main Street
Suite 203
Lexington, Ky 40507
His e-mail address is gatewood@mis.net
We are hoping that my case will present to my community what can be a valuable tool and also be the start of a statewide effort to reschedule this wonderful natural plant to help others who are sick and tired of having to take man-made chamicals when natures natural cure is much more effective with less side effects.
