my plan

Alright i have 2 seeds in soil right now in an 8" deep pot. they have been under 1 27watt cfl for a day and a half now. I still havent seen anything come up, but I havent checked in 6 hours.

anyways

I will wait for the sprouts to grow a bit and then kill off the less healthy one and grow the other in the pot. Right now the grow room is under a desk, so there is only room for about 18 - 20" of plant growth, allowing room for cfl. I want to lst, but this is my first grow so I dont know if I should. I can make more room if I wanted but it would be the biggest pain, and more ghetto :joint:.

I want to do the whole grow under 2 27 watt cfls, both with coke can reflectors.

I also have a 8" fan to use to vent.

so heres some things im wondering. will I need to change pots later on? should i try to lst? and do I have enough room with 18 - 20" of height?

"I want to do the whole grow under 2 27 watt cfls, both with coke can reflectors"

when you start flowering your going to need 6 more of those, if you want to make it worth your while.

you pot should be ok, and your space will be ok for a wile but you will need more space as it grows, and you should try and get some more lights

you could do it in that space if your going the cfl route, you should do some lsting if you want more info let me know.

the reason I cant add more lights is I cant find any fixtures for them anywhere... right now I have 2 lamps on there side, propped up a few inches over the pot, extremely ghetto rigged.

I can eaisly get more cfls, 27 watt is the heighest? Ive looked everywhere and thats the most I can find.

fresh air shouldnt be a problem, 8" fan, and the closets very big, 12 ft long, 3 ft wide, normal room height. I can whoop the door to ventalate the closet too if needed.

8" of root space should be fine for the first month or two, after that you'll want at least double that. Also dont re-pot them until a proper root system has been established, lest you cause the plant too much trauma.

those lamps you have, take them apart so its just the cord and socket allowing it to hang anywhere. sense you only have to fixture go buy some y sockets these allow to bulbs in one fixture. lowes or home depot carries 42w cfls

Will lowes / home depot have y sockets? I will buy some 42 watts as well. Also the lamps i cant really take apart, one is 6ft tall, and even has a table thing on it... and its my moms, she doesnt know i have it xD. the other is an old glass lamp I found in the basement, it would be a pain to take apart.

does lowes/ home depot sell lamps? if so how much?

All of the home improvement center carry light bars to go over bathroom sinks. The 36" long, six light fixture was under $20.00. Some one has one showing in thier grow journal.
If I understood correctly you have two plants in one pot? Bad idea. Starting seeds in an 8" deep pot? Bad idea. you have some research to do. Welcome to the forum. VV

thanks for for the reply

36" long light fixture would present some problems, but I would be able to take it apart and just hang the sockets? if so perfect, ill go look for one.

I know all about starting in an 8" pot, and I read how its harder to control the ph and stuff, but I am doing absoulutely nothing as far as ph testing, temperature testing, humidity tests, etc... nothing to test it with. But I can make educated guesses. But anyways because the soils brand new and im not adjusting anything, I didnt see this as a problem, and I figured if anything transplanting would be a problem... I mean I have problems just getting a seed in the hole taproot down -_-.

I doubt its very humid in the room, because its in under a desk in a closet that I go in only a few times a year, so I am gonna raise the humidity a bit, with a glass of water and paper towels dipped in it.

I did have 1 seed that I know of about sprout, but I dug it up and ripped through it on accident, but I planted 2 more. currently 3 growing, 1 is 1 day older than the others. I will kill off the 2 unhealthiest looking at one point [there will be no root complications I will make sure of it, and they will be killed off within the first couple of weeks anyways]. Also a seed just sprouted in my pot of backyard soil as well, I cant remember when I planted it though, but I intend to grow it out, and see which soil worked better, backyard, or what I bought; and see how much of a difference; even if it means, how in which soil medium did the plant live longest -_-.

Well I just got everything set up, finally, rearranged everything and got the fan setup. Since I last checked on it, about 5 hours ago, the one in the backyard soil grew considerably. When I first found it, it was at the surface and had lifted a bit of soil, so I covered it with a bit more soil, I check on it now it is completely out of the soil and sticking up out of the soil 1/2" to the top of the seed shell [I just measured]. Its stem or whatever [its white...] is pretty thick, the fan didnt really phase it at all, I actually think the fact the backsoil is so stuck together and firm, it made the seed have to work really hard to get out of the ground... but it will probably make it hard for it to root...

I removed the plastic wrap from that pot and its still under the light, i am thinking i will go 18/6 starting first dark cycle tommorrow afternoon.

I still havent started the dark cycle yet, and its been 2 days since 2 of the seeds were planted in the good soil, and one has been in 3 days, still nothing has come up...

the backyard soil however, the plant is about an inch tall, still hasnt come out of the seed shell yet, but its coming closer, I dont know when I will start the dark cycle, because if I want a timer, I will have to bring in a second extention cord type thing, one for the fan because its not timed, and one for the lights -_-. I dont have a timer [but I can get one]... but running a second cord would be suspicious.
